Hookups and hotties are not very big concerns for most IUPUI students. Several of the students here are actually married and have established family lives outside of their academics. Younger single students look for hookups by hanging out at clubs or bars after class. Or, they simply go on a date; however, the dating scene is not a big deal. There is also not very much competition for guys and girls, partly because the average student is 25 years old and in a relationship. Although, some people do come to class overdressed and looking for more than an education—these people stick out like sore thumbs. It’s more accepted to be casual and non-competitive in the social scene at IUPUI. The competitive dating scene usually consists of a younger, more traditional set of students.
Despite all of this, guys and girls comingle for so many different reasons—study groups, student organizations, lunch, dinner, or just hanging out on the campus lawn. There are also the annual Homecoming and Spring dances attended by some students. These dances are typically tame and respectful by most standards. In general it is quite easy to make new friends and to find good groups with whom to congregate. The social life is satisfying at IUPUI.
