Campus Food: The food is absolutely disgusting in the Tower.

Campus Food: The meal plans are extremely expensive, which is irritating to students staying in dorms because these students are required to have a mandatory meal plan. Students who live in University Tower and Ball Hall must choose between the unlimited meal plan option and the 16 swipes per week plan. The unlimited meal plan is only $100 more a semester than the 16 swipes per week plan; however, the 16 swipes per week plan is the better option. I am thankful that I chose this plan against the advice of the tour group leaders. The 16 swipes per week plan comes with $150 flex dollars per semester that roll over from the fall to spring semester (but not from the spring to the next fall semester), while the unlimited plan does not come with any flex dollars. Flex dollars are extremely nice to have because they can be spent at many different places on campus. If you need to grab something to eat on the run, Outtakes in the campus center is a great place to grab a cold sandwich, a salad, a bowl of soup, fruit, chips, candy bars, and drinks. If you feel like getting a coffee, you can use flex dollars at Caribou in the campus center instead of spending money at Starbucks in Barnes and Noble. Also, students most likely won't even use 16 meal swipes a week, especially if they have some food in their dorm room or do use flex dollars a couple of times a week. Students can save $200 for the year by choosing 16 swipes over the unlimited meal plan, which could be better used on textbooks, which are expensive. Also, the food in the dining hall is not worth spending the extra money on the unlimited meal plan. If you are forced to have a meal plan, my advice is to choose the 16 swipes. If you are not forced to have a meal plan, cooking your own meals might be a good option, especially with Marsh Grocery located a walking distance from campus.

Campus Food: Really the food is great but the food itself is expensive they need to dwindle the prices on campus.

Most students vehemently agree that on-campus dining is adequate at best. Some students bring sack lunches but most endure the low-quality cuisine that is served on campus. There was a new campus center built just recently that has many different types of food such as pizza, hamburgers, mexian, chicken and salads. At the other popular eating areas (Inlow Hall and the Union Building) the food is equally mediocre, with the exception of an occasional turkey wrap or slice of pizza. To be safe, grab pre-packaged name brands off the shelves.

Listed in this section are several so-called restaurants, but this list is very deceptive because there are not really any individual restaurants on campus, except in the food court at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center. Almost every place listed here is simply a separate section in one big common area. So, don’t let the fancy name “Rio Frontera” in the underground Café fool you—it is simply the section of the line that serves nachos. Also, if students are hungry after 3 p.m. it is pretty difficult to get a bite to eat on campus. The only options are vending machines and the 24-hour McDonald’s in Riley Hospital. But, for redemption’s sake, Chancellor’s, the campus sports bar, is one of the first steps in improving IUPUI campus dining. It offers better food quality and later hours than most on-campus dining facilities.

Special Options
Many students head over to the north end of campus and cross Indiana Avenue to pick from several off-campus restaurants that offer a variety of foods. The restaurants include Au Bon Pain, Best Taste China Buffet, Pizza Express, Nothing But Noodles, Taco Bell, Quiznos Subs, and Donato’s Pizza. These are all within walking distance of most classes.
Did You Know?
Our Den is a newly-renovated on-campus bar with plasma television sets and modern interior design. This is a great spot to come to right after a final or a midterm and hang out with friends while watching the Colts or Pacers.
