College Student

Majors: I don't really have an opinion on my major. I only really took prerequisites and I am transferring.

1 College Student

Local Area: This city used to be really nice and have a lot to do, but now it is full of criminals and you have to be careful walking by yourself. There are always shootings and deaths even very near the housing. The people here are rude and unintelligent. This is not a good place to be,

College Student

Academics: I'm only a freshman and I am switching my majors. There are some opportunities for the Communications major but far less than other competing schools.

Health & Safety: There have been multiple sexual assaults on campus and the safety in the apartments is terrible. It's easy for people to break into the rooms on the bottom floor and the area the school is in is unsafe. Just one road away from one of the most dangerous roads in the city where many assaults and shootings happen.

College Freshman

Party Scene: As far as I know, there aren't many parties, but I don't party, so I'm probably not the best person to describe this scene.

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining options are basically the same restaurants as any other big city.

College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life isn't really important at my university.

College Freshman

Majors: I haven't had an internship pertaining to my major yet.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live on campus and have a kitchen, my own room, closet, and bathroom. It's great.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The campus is cute. There are lots of clubs available. The Student Activity Center is great.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There have been a few cases of assaults on campus, but I'm sure it's lower than big schools.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: The University Park Mall is great. Ireland Road has lots of attractions.

Administration: Every encounter I have had with administration is bad. First, the financial officer wouldn't help me. Second, the counselors were completely useless. Third, security is NOT well trained or involved. And lastly, some professors treat you like you're a child when you ask them a question. It just feels like administration only wants what is best for the school money wise and don't really care or are concerned about the students.

Guys & Girls: I have met some really great people at IUSB, but I have also met some really awful people here too. No one really seems to care what they look like when coming to school. I know looks aren't important, but I think wearing pajamas don't show a motivated college student. I have been in the library studying for an exam and students across the room were being very obnoxious and didn't seem to care that they were being loud. I feel like some students aren't serious about school and their education as they should be.

Health & Safety: Campus security seems like they are always busy or sleeping whenever something goes down on campus. I have been on campus late at night and saw a campus officer sleeping in his car. We have had many incidents of sexual assault at the on campus housing complex. Students get emailed every time something does go down on campus, but IUSB seems to just forget about it after it has happened. There are no follow ups as to what is going on.

Overall Experience: I love that I won't be too into debt since IUSB isn't too costly, but I just wish it were bigger and more things to do. I would've loved to get out of this town, since I grew up here. I love my major though and wouldn't have changed it and the friends I have made are very fun to be around and make school much more tolerable.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: I have lived here my whole life so I have already done most things around this small town. I do try to find new things to do around here, but there isn't much. The only attraction people from out of town come to is Notre Dame. Other than that, if my cousins or friends that don't live around here come into town, I don't know where I would take them to have fun around here.

Scholarships: Financial aid from IUSB is the absolute worst. On FAFSA, it might say that my parents make enough to pay for only my college, but that is not true whatsoever. I have an older brother who goes to IUSB as well and my parents struggle as it is just paying for bills or catching up on bills plus having to pay for college on top of that. I am paying for my own college because I feel bad for my parents so I went to a financial officer and she explained to me that I make too much for financial aid. I work part-time all year round and don't even make $12,000 a year so I was really frustrated with the financial officer. IUSB only gave me one scholarship, which covers only $250 a semester, which is not a lot. I have a cumulative of a 3.46 and I think I deserve more scholarships from IUSB since I have such a high GPA compared to most students here.

Off-Campus Housing: There is an apartment complex right next to IUSB and it is very sketchy. One of my friends lived in them last year and we came home late at night and had to call the on campus security because there was this group of men that started to lurk their way towards where we were standing. It was terrifying. IUSB does post up some flyers for off campus housing, but IUSB promotes on campus housing more.

Majors: I am majoring in Nursing and it is a great experience. I am applying this spring to get in the program and the only thing I could say negatively about Nursing or Dental Hygiene or Radiography is that they don't accept that many people in the program so I feel like if I don't get in the first time, that I just wasted my time here studying. Applying for any major you have to have great grades, which makes students work and study hard. It does become very stressful when students are beginning the applying process because people freak out as to what the outcome will be. Some counselors that I have encountered are awful. When I came to IUSB, my counselor seemed like she just wanted to get my scheduling done and over with. I ended up emailing another counselor and she made me feel very unimportant and did not help me whatsoever. I finally emailed the Nursing counselor directly and she was extraordinary compared to the other counselors.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: IUSB doesn't make athletics a big deal on campus. If you want to attend, you can, but if you don't, you don't miss out on anything really. I am a sophomore and I have never been to a game and neither has any of my friends. I have heard there is no much of a crowd there besides parents, so the fan support isn't too great.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Some professors are not the best
