Drug Safety

{{ error }}
3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: People in fraternities usually drink but there's no pressure. If you don't drink, there is not much peer pressure from people. There are a lot of people who don't drink at all and there is greater acceptability for all people.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: A ton of pot smokers. Almost everyone drinks, but those who don't aren't really judged. Some do cocaine, but thats the same anywhere. The school is pretty lax on everything as long as you dont act like a belligerent jackass and destroy things.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Nothing too bad ever happens -- we get the occasional alcohol poisoning but that's only happened twice, and both times they were not students from our campus.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Most of the time, people are drinking. Some people are into drugs, but that's definitely not as issue if you're not into it.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: While students are not pressured to drink on campus and aren't treated any differently for choosing not to, many students do choose to drink alcohol. Several students do choose to use drugs as well, although the vast majority of drug users only use marijuana and only recreationally or on the weekends. I would say that drug and alcohol use is as less common that at other universities; however, you will find these activities at any university.

Students at Illinois Wesleyan are not heavy drug users. Students are much more likely to be caught with a cup of beer in their hand than a joint. Still, a number of students choose to smoke weed, though they are in the minority. Smokers generally do so in the privacy of their rooms or apartments. Drugs are not prevalent at parties, so there's no pressure to take part. In fact, even if you wanted to toke up at a party, you might have trouble finding someone to join you. There are small pockets of students who enjoy a little after-class indulgence, and they don't make it a well-known habit of theirs—for good reason. Possession of marijuana was downgraded to an ordinance violation in neighboring Normal, but it is still punishable by arrest in Bloomington.

There really is not much of a drug scene at IWU. It's safe to say that no one is trafficking drugs onto campus. Weed comes onto campus off the streets of Bloomington. Harder drugs are virtually nonexistent. Raves never really caught on, and only a small portion of the student body has experimented with cocaine. Other drugs, like mushrooms and acid, can be sought out, but they are never advertised. The drug of choice at IWU is alcohol, without exception.
