4 College Junior

Campus Resources: Being in the dental hygiene program we are required to do research papers and the campus offers an online library such as texshare to find scholarly journals and articles to benefit us. The instructors are very understanding at let us come in early and practice instrumentation and help us with whatever we may be struggling with.

Academic Flexibility: Certain classes are only scheduled for one time, so it's hard to work it into your personal/work schedule. Understandable because it's a smaller school, but be prepared to have absolutely no social life during the semester.

Overall Experience: I've loved nearly all of my teachers and classes. It's difficult to balance school with real life, especially in terms of money, but it's truly been a wonderful experience. Honestly, the only thing I've been frustrated about is parking - you can be REALLY late getting to class because of it.

I'm also in the Rouse Scholars Program, which is excellent as well. Apply for it if you can; lots of fun events and lots of great people to meet!

Overall Experience: Teachers vary in quality, but overall the course material is excellent. What's most important is finding out how you learn best, and applying that within the classroom.

Overall Experience: A lot of great opportunities for those looking to get real-life experience. Almost every other week there's a transfer or job fair in the Library building. Check them out if you get a chance!

Student Body: Students here are VERY friendly. Lots of diversity in terms of race, religion, and interests. You will definitely be able to find a group of people to connect with, and make a few new friends as well.

Tuition & Financial Aid: I was disappointed that I wasn't able to put any of my financial aid money towards my books, which were all REALLY expensive. We were on a tuition payment plan, so that our payments could be spread out over a few months instead of demanded all at once; because my tuition hadn't been paid in full, I wasn't able to put my scholarship money (which would have covered all of my extra supplies) towards anything else.

Career Services: Each student is assigned an academic adviser, who helps with scheduling classes, transferring, and choosing majors. My adviser was very helpful, and it's very easy to walk in and get an appointment.

Academic Experience: General studies has a LOT of courses you need to get done within two years. You usually have to take courses over the summer or in the winter, which is unnecessarily stressful.

3 College Junior

Academic Experience: Workload can be intense, especially if you're a full-time student. A lot of teachers expect you to learn new material on your own outside of class, which can be difficult if you haven't already gone over it. They're always willing to help, though, whether through E-mail or by meeting in person.

Campus Resources: Staff is very friendly, open, and helpful.

Campus Resources: There is a stop-in math and english lab ALWAYS open for those who need help.

Academic Experience: I have received course substitutions for half of my psych classes because all of the ones that I have to take will either not transfer over, or I would have to retake.

Academic Experience: Although all math teachers are awful, the overall academic experience is amazing. I am in the Rouse Program, and I get to experience a lot more in-depth courses than other students do. I have incredible Rouse professors who expect your absolute best at all times, and they notice when something in your work is off and work with you to help fix any problems you may be facing.

Student Body: There's always a friend for any kind of person. People are so welcoming and nonjudgmental; if someone is graduating from a Howard County school unsure what college is right for them, I always recommend HCC. There is no better feeling than knowing someone else in your classes and then being able to meet new friendly people.

Tuition & Financial Aid: This past semester I had to increase my student loan. Because of this, one of my scholarships actually increased so that I wouldn't have to keep that loan increase anymore. The financial aid office is very friendly and understanding and will do whatever they can to see you succeed.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: I love the campus that HCC has to offer. You can't go anywhere without seeing someone that you know, but there are so many people that you don't always have classes with people you know, allowing you to branch out and meet new people. It's very cool to be so close with the professors and they truly want to see you exceed.
