Party Scene: There are a few popular bars/clubs that people go to. It seems to be pretty easy to get alcohol at these places if you're underage, but I've never been so I don't really know.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: There are usually parties every Friday and Saturday night.

Parties are usually either in Greek Village or Centennial.

It's not a major party school, but you can typically find one if you want.

Sometimes Security breaks up the parties.

Party Scene: Nightlife is good at High Point. People usually go out Thursdays to bars around town. Most people are over twenty one when they go to bars. There is a club called Limelight 20 minutes away that people like to go to on Thursday nights, too. Parties on campus are fun and go on every single weekend.

Student Author OverviewWhat's this?

View student contributors

Nightlife around the High Point campus leaves a lot to be desired. There aren’t any bars, clubs, or hangouts within walking distance of campus, so finding a DD or a taxi is imperative. Students will go out to Greensboro clubs for special occasions or the traditional Thursday night at Ham's, but they mostly choose to stay on campus. Also, if you’re underage and without a fake ID, the best thing to do is to stay on campus and find something fun there. Since the High Point area is lacking in bars and clubs, the majority of students relies on Greek life to provide fun. However, frat parties are strictly monitored at HPU, and they can only take place certain nights, with absolutely no kegs, and get broken up early depending on security’s mood that night. However, when parties do get shut down, it isn’t the end of the night. Many students will head over to apartment parties or dorm parties around campus, and then come back to the frats when security has calmed down.

If you plan on attending an apartment party or a dorm party, then it definitely amps up the risk factor for getting into trouble. When you party in the dorms/apartments, you always run the risk of disturbing your neighbors, which can lead to security being called on account of a noise complaint, which can then lead to more serious issues. This isn’t to say that people don’t party in the dorms and apartments, but the groups are generally smaller and more controlled for fear of heavy-duty fines.

Useful Resources for Nightlife
Word of mouth-talk to people on campus and you'll be able to figure out something to do and where everyone is going that night.
Closing Time
2 a.m.
Cheapest Place to Get a Drink
La Hacienda, The Frat House, Ham's, or on-campus parties
Organization Parties
Every fraternity on campus throws parties at their respective houses. The houses are on campus, so everyone can walk there and back safely. The Greek apartments will generally have something if the houses don't. Sometimes sports teams will have parties, but they generally aren't open to the public, and you have to know someone to even know they are going on.
Did You Know?
High Point recently built Greek Village and has given every sorority and fraternity a house. Because these houses are so beautiful, the amount of partying done in them is still up in the air. Greek and GDIs (God Damn Independents) alike are waiting anxiously to see if the rules will stay the same or if Greek Village will be allowed to do its own thing in regards to nightlife.

Club ListingsWhat's This?

Inferno 2.0

Inferno 2.0 is probably the most popular Greensboro club for HPU students. They have college nights every Wednesday, and it's pretty easy to get a group together to go here.

212 S. Elm St.

(336) 333-9100

Greene Street Club

Greene Street is definitely a great club to go to any day of the week. You need to take a taxi or designated driver to get there, but everyone who goes says it's a great time. Although it's not one of the major HPU student hangouts, it's a good place to go when you want a change of pace.

113 N. Greene St.

(336) 273-4111

Blue Bourbon Jacks

Once known as the infamous "Triangle nightclub," BBJ has been taken over by new management and has turned into a respectable bar/nightclub. The downside with BBJ is that you have to be 21 to enter.

Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery

Another hot spot for the over-21 crowd on Thursday nights, this place is a little classier than Ham's, but don't try your fake ID here.

914 Mall Loop Rd.

High Point

The Frat House

A local Wednesday night hangout. The cool thing about the Frat House is that the owners are really nice people and let the fraternities from HPU come and decorate a wall in the bar. It's a great space with two bars and a big dance floor.

133B E. Parris Ave.

High Point

(336) 899-0004

Ham's Restaurant

A lot of Greeks go to Ham's on Thursday nights. There are cheap drinks and karaoke, so it's the go-to place. Non-Greeks are obviously welcome to go, as well, but they will be outnumbered by the people in the Greek system.
