Majors: I plan to have an internship in the future, and I know that High Point is very proactive in offering opportunities to find internships.

Off-Campus Dining: To go somewhere other than a fast food chain or southern diner, you have to drive fairly far.

Administration: I think the balance is perfect, not overly strict but not lenient to the point of destruction.

Greek Life: It's the overwhelming majority which can lead to exclusion

Off-Campus Housing: The housing around the university does not compare to the on campus housing options.

Party Scene: The party scene is overrated. They generally occur in Greek Village and offer the same experience of drunkenness and house music.

Academics: A Biology major definitely entails a heavy course load, though I think it can be managed with good time management skills and study habits. Recently installed new system with "concentrations" for Biology, such as Ecology, Molecular, and Pre-Professional (e.g. Pre-med, Pre-PA, Pre-Dental), and really tries to set students up for success in their future career aspirations.

Majors: Have not had an internship on campus, but have had one off campus. Felt prepared for position and that professors helped to prepare me. Available research opportunities for science majors, though somewhat competitive.

Majors: Nothing out of the ordinary for applying into sciences.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Not much of a partier.

Athletics: School spirit is good, but not great. However, the school and campus activities team does try to get students involved in attending events, and turn outs are often pretty good.

Local Area: Not always a ton to do as the city/town itself is relatively furniture based (only busy during furniture markets), but is in close proximity to various supermarkets, city of Greensboro/Winston-Salem, shopping centers, and other places.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Its a lot more wild then people would think but people only go out on thursday, friday and saturday.

Greek Life: The frats are pretty much the only action going on around campus, Its pretty easy to get in. Everyone goes out from thursday to saturday

Athletics: I love that we are a competitive school in terms of sports! It's awesome to see our athletes compete at the Division I level. However, I think we need more school spirit and more people should attend games.

Campus Housing: I love living on campus! The university provides us with very luxurious housing options. However, for upperclassmen looking to live in standard housing, there are inadequate options.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: I honestly think I did not receive merit scholarship because I was admitted early decision. Although my family has been fortunate enough to put me through school, financial aid in the form of scholarships would have been extremely helpful! Now I am going to have the burden of student loans after graduation.

Majors: We do not apply to specific programs other than the Honors Scholar Programs, therefore there were no real challenges that I encountered.

4 College Junior

Majors: I like both of my major programs and professors a lot! I wish their were more academic honors societies.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
