Drug Safety: HPU is just like many colleges, in that not everything can be controlled or limited. HPU does not have drug/alcohol problems although there are students who participate.

Students are largely respectful of those who do not wish to partake in drugs/alcohol

Overall Experience: HPU is a dream school!

Campus Housing: Campus housing is outstanding! 93% of students live on campus (seniors not required but almost always choose to) because of the beautiful, clean and spacious living opportunities as well as the residential environment of campus! Part of the HPU experience is that you live on campus!

Greek Life: About 35% of students are involved in Greek Life on campus. The Greek organizations housing is great, their campus involvement is fantastic and the relationships between Greeks and non-Greeks is strong and positive.

Overall Experience: High Point University is an amazing place to study and grow! With students and faculty from all over the world, an amazing campus and opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom, I couldn't have asked for a better place to go to school!

Health & Safety: There has never been a time on campus when I did not feel safe. We have a security department that is top notch. We are also a closed campus which helps a lot.

Overall Experience: High Point University has given me the tools to excel in school and the work place. The professors are there for each student, willing to do what ever it takes to make sure each of us succeeds. I feel blessed to attend such a university.

Overall Experience: I wasn't really sure what I wanted to major in and I ended up switching sophomore year, and I'm still not sure what I want to do. The class size is great, the courses offered are great but I hate that most of the ones I wanted to take next semester were offered in the evenings. The quality of the courses and professors are great. I enjoy going to class and the professors seem really engaged with the what they are teaching and with the students.

Overall Experience: Career services are amazing and great with helping students in finding possible careers and internships. They really want to see us all succeed, but some times students don't realize the resources available to them.

Health & Safety: I personally feel very safe on campus. Our security team is great and I enjoy how personal they are with us, they aren't just "doing their job". I love the security guards that I've gotten to know and I know that if I need anything that I can call them.

Campus Housing: I lived on campus for freshmen and part of sophomore year and it was amazing! I live in the UC (now the Wanek Center) and it was definitely the most convenient dorm to live in. There are 4 places to eat, a convenience store, a movie theater, a study floor, an arcade, and a Jamba Juice (formally Starbucks when I lived there). I decided to move to Village 2 because I wanted my own room. The only problem with this was having to drive to school (or take the trolley) and parking. I won't lie, trying to park on campus kind of sucks some times. The housing process could be improved. I wanted to live in Centennial as a senior with my group of friends, however most of the houses had been homesteaded or people were pulled in, and I personally don't think that's fair that underclassmen get better housing than seniors.

Greek Life: I am not in a sorority, however I have many friends who are involved in Greek organizations. I feel that non-Greeks some times judge the Greeks because of the vibe they give off, however they have wonderful people within the organizations. Their philanthropies are great and receive a lot of attention from the students. Greek housing is great. As far as affecting the social atmosphere, parties are mostly held by Greeks, either in the Greek houses or in other residential areas.

Athletics: Athletics at our school are very important, especially basketball, lacrosse, and track and field. HPU has a big fan support system with both students and family. School spirit can also be seen throughout HPU no matter what sport it is. Our facilities are very nice, but I can't wait to see the new facility that is planned to be built within the next couple of years.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been wonderful. I have made strong connections because of the opportunities and resources available. My school is unique because it's not a typical university that people see or experience when touring schools. One of the reasons I decided to go to HPU is because of the class to teacher ratio. I went to a small high school and I wanted to continue to have that one-on-one connection. My professors are very attentive and want to see all of their students succeed. I would definitely choose HPU again if I could do it all over. The moment I toured the school I knew that it was where I wanted to attend after high school.

Overall Experience: Class size is what drew me to High Point, and the professors are what made me stay. I am working on a B.S. in psychology and it makes me very happy to know that every single professor is several times published, and a few are even in the head of their field. There are no assistant professors in the psychology department, and the university as a whole does not use TAs. There are students who are paid to take extra notes and lead study sessions, but they do not teach. High Point University is not just a pretty face, it truly is pressing forward and ensuring that the education we pay for is extraordinary. Class sizes in more major-specific classes remain small, usually under 25 students, labs usually have 12-15, and lectures for classes such as intro to biology or other gen-eds can be bigger, up to 30 students. Professors always stress that they are available for extra help, have office hours at least every other day, and truly do care about our success.

Overall Experience: The alumni network of High Point always surprises me. I am finding more and more that I meet alumni who have achieved great things all over the country. If I visit family in California and wear a High Point University t-shirt there will be somebody who says they attended or a family member attended. Despite the downfalls of Student Life at HPU, the dogged loyalty all alumni have to one another is impressive. There are frequent job and internship fairs, and the university works closely with the furniture market in town so students looking for interior design or business majors get a lot of hands on experience. Professors care about your academic success, and also your continued success outside of the university.

Health & Safety: I have always felt safe walking around campus at night. It is well lit and security drives by every few minutes. If it is late on the weekends and you are walking alone some often offer to drive you where you're going. When I was a freshman and sophomore there was a problem with the blue emergency lights in that none of them were actually working. This is possibly because there has never really been a need for them, but that's not a real reason for them not to be functional. While I have never felt particularly unsafe walking around, I know many girls who have been assaulted and even raped in the dorms. It is the expectation that daddy's money will solve everything that the boys have, and the university's desire to keep everything quiet and maintain the perfect picture it has created that enables this. Nothing is being done to stop it, and in all the cases of rape that I know, the amount of victim blaming is out of control, Student Life makes the problem worse, and nothing is done to punish the boys who did it.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
