Administration: I believe the administration is becoming somewhat more lenient because of the need for the university to attract more and more students

Academics: The academics at High Point University are good in that whatever you are willing to put into your studies, whatever comes out of it is deserved.

2 College Freshman

Local Area: Because the surrounding area of High Point University is of lower socioeconomic status, the local atmosphere is lacking because there is not much for students to do off campus

Greek Life: Greek life is a part of High Point University, but it doesn't dominate the student population in terms of participants

Party Scene: There are usually many different parties going on, either in the homes, in the apartments, and in a townhouse in centennial. Though, the parties are usually dominated by competing frats in the greek village. Some are pretty sick, while other kind of fall flat.

Scholarships: High Point University is usually not very offering for scholarships, though many friends i have, have the presidential scholarship which entails a lot of work, maintaining a strict GPA, and doesn't always give as much as people want.

Administration: Campus security are pretty helpful and nice, but i've heard of some security being really mean to some students. Though it never personal happened to me. High Point is pretty lenient about alcohol, but they are very strict with hardcore drugs, especially with the rising cocaine problem the school has...

Athletics: High point sports are pretty big, but the bug complaint is that we don't have a football team. Though the basketball games usually have a lot of school spirit!

Off-Campus Dining: The dining off campus dinning is average at best, but there are a couple usual hang out that students go to and they are usually pretty good, but once you hit those everything else is pretty basic.

Greek Life: Greek life is huge at High Point University. A lot of people rush and pledge, and the university has the Greek village, which is where most of the parties are held. The fraternities are where most of the big parties are held so if you want to go out, you're most likely than not going to go to the frats.

Health & Safety: If you go to HPU one of the first things you'll see if the security on campus. This year they're a little more relaxed than years in the past. As long as you're not into hard drugs and are completely belligerent when you drink you should be fine. Security is everywhere though and commonly make themselves very accessible.

Off-Campus Housing: I personally haven't lived off campus, but i have heard horror stories from other people. Most of everyone who really enjoys their housing section lives on campus, to live off campus you're really ostracized from the university and most people try and transfer back on campus or transfer.

Overall Experience: professors take their courses seriously and show genuine compassion for the student and their grades. Course work usually isn't unbearable, but courses can be stressful at times. As a psychology major i find the courses to be moderately challenging and move at a good pace.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
