Off-Campus Dining: Theres a lot of fast food chains off campus that are popular. i.e. Cookout, Zaxby's, McDonalds, Buffalo Wild Wings...

Drug Safety: There are plenty of students who drink and do drugs and then there are also those who don't. Mostly everyone drinks but for drugs other than alcohol there are plenty of students who do other drugs but they don't do it out in the open so if you don't want to be a part of it you don't have to.

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing is available. All the houses are along the edge of campus and you can see which ones they are because they are all painted in fun colors. Most students live on campus though

Campus Food: There are so many dining options. On campus there is subway, sports bar, bakery, farmers market, steak house, 2 starbucks, diner, grille, chik-fil-a and of course the caf. Many options and variety

Weather: Only rains once or twice a month! Typically very sunny. Winters are tricky because one day it could be 30F and then the next it can be 60F

Administration: Campus strictness is at the right level. Campus security does a good job and keeping the campus safe and typically will NOT bust you for alcohol. Drugs you can easily get in trouble for. The only real issue is RA's that can be nosey in your business. But if campus security sees you with a beer they most likely won't write you up but they might take it away or tell you to pour it out.

Local Area: The town of High Point and surrounding towns are 'depressed' and you do not normally go off campus to do anything other than go to the 1 or 2 bars or to get some fast food. If you do leave campus you should use a car, nothing is walking distance.

Athletics: High Point is a D1 school and plenty of people attend the games but I do not think that the sports are a big part of High Point life.

Technology: There is always a free computer to use. The library has about 75 computers and only 10% of them are used at any time. The Learning Commons have 20 computers as well.

Health & Safety: Everything is gated in on campus. Any entrance has a guard station and they can recognize students so they typically don't bother them but if someone doesn't look like a student they will definitely stop them. Campus is extremely safe. Every inch of the campus is well lit and campus security drives around in their dodge chargers.

Overall Experience: High Point has an extraordinary campus. Life if very easy here but that being said it can be a little 'fake' at times. But overall with the Dr. Qubein doing a great job with developing this school, i love it here. Academics are at the right level for me and the resources that we are given are more than enough to get a great education. Dorms are incredible. Food has many option including on campus steak house, sports grill and bakery. Nightlife if alright; mostly at frats.

Drug Safety: It's college. There will be some drinking and drug use. If you're not into that, you can find friends who feel the same way as you do.

Overall Experience: There has been good and bad so far. There are definitely bitchy girls at this school. Not all of them though, so don't worry. The Pride club has to fight hard to become established back in the day and that is a reflection on the Student Life staff's attitude. That is disappointing. However the campus is beautiful. Let's be honest: this school is not impressive academically. There are not so nice people and people who are lovely. You can either have a great experience at HPU or a terrible one. A lot of it has to do with YOU.

Campus Housing: There are definitely nice housing options available. If you do live in a suite style set up you will have less of a community feeling so you just have to make extra effort to get out and meet people. No big deal.

Guys & Girls: Let's not overgeneralize. Anywhere you go you will find both kind and rude people. You will see a lot of preppy types on campus. There will be girls who will stare you down and size you up. There are also people who are very nice and friendly. Also, being not all Northerners are automatically rude and not all Southerners are automatically sweet ;).

Transportation: The shuttles are very useful and the drivers are very friendly. A car is definitely nice but not necessary.

Campus Quality: Our school is beautiful. End of story. The academic building are gorgeous inside and out, and the classrooms have such a nice vibe because they aren't like typical college classrooms. The comfort-level here is unbelievable, however it is clear that our campus is image-driven. It is all about how the campus looks to the outsider's eye, and how YOU look to the outsider's eye. We have an ice-cream truck and a ropes course on an estate off-campus. I can't even begin to tell you all of the amenities we have available, so let me just stop and say that we have "Campus Concierge."

Campus Quality: Our school has two libraries, an arcade, a cinema, and several pools. There are plenty of places on campus to hang out. The problem is that none of them have a whole lot of character like you would expect from a college. Everything seems very brand-name generic. It's still beautiful nonetheless, but there's no personality. Whoever decorates our school's interiors has a very interesting taste, which would be easy for one to figure out just by looking at the Slane Student Center. Our campus really doesn't have any special traditions which is also kind of unfortunate, but perhaps in future years we will develop some. For now all we have is the crest on the ground in front of Robert's Hall: don't walk on it until you;re a senior, or you won't graduate!

Greek Life: Greek life is weird on this campus. For sororities, if you rush you're pretty much guaranteed to get into one of the sororities, which to me kind of defeats the purpose of rush. Regardless, Greek life is really big on campus and sometimes it seems like the majority of the students are part of Greek life. It's kind of annoying when you're a non-Greek. The Greeks have their own "Greek Village" complete with pool and crazy large houses with their gold letters displayed on the front. The non-Greeks are friends with the Greeks and vice versa, but the non-Greeks definitely mutter about how stupid Greek life is under their breaths every once in a while.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
