4 College Sophomore

Majors: Have not had an internship on campus, but have had one off campus. Felt prepared for position and that professors helped to prepare me. Available research opportunities for science majors, though somewhat competitive.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Nothing out of the ordinary for applying into sciences.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Not much of a partier.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: School spirit is good, but not great. However, the school and campus activities team does try to get students involved in attending events, and turn outs are often pretty good.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: Not always a ton to do as the city/town itself is relatively furniture based (only busy during furniture markets), but is in close proximity to various supermarkets, city of Greensboro/Winston-Salem, shopping centers, and other places.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Its a lot more wild then people would think but people only go out on thursday, friday and saturday.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: The frats are pretty much the only action going on around campus, Its pretty easy to get in. Everyone goes out from thursday to saturday

4 College Junior

Athletics: I love that we are a competitive school in terms of sports! It's awesome to see our athletes compete at the Division I level. However, I think we need more school spirit and more people should attend games.

Campus Housing: I love living on campus! The university provides us with very luxurious housing options. However, for upperclassmen looking to live in standard housing, there are inadequate options.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: I honestly think I did not receive merit scholarship because I was admitted early decision. Although my family has been fortunate enough to put me through school, financial aid in the form of scholarships would have been extremely helpful! Now I am going to have the burden of student loans after graduation.

4 College Junior

Majors: We do not apply to specific programs other than the Honors Scholar Programs, therefore there were no real challenges that I encountered.

4 College Junior

Majors: I like both of my major programs and professors a lot! I wish their were more academic honors societies.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I know a lot of transfer students had to live in off-campus housing this year. Most of our students live on campus and Student Life does their best to meet everyone's needs.

2 College Junior

Greek Life: As a non-Greek, I see a lot of judgement toward to Greek community. I like how they have their own Village to hold social events. I do not feel obligated to join a Greek organization to feel involved in social life.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining is great for the most part!! Lots of small town diners that I love, and a good variety of food.

3 College Junior

Local Area: The city of High Point offers little to do other than dining. However, our Campus Activities Team does a fantastic job of organizing events on-campus as well as bringing students to off-campus spots for fun!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I always feel safe on campus. Security does a wonderful job patrolling the area and keeping everything under control. Additionally, our campus is very well lit and equipped with emergency posts if needed.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: It's a very small part of campus. The rec center for students is smaller than my high school weight room

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: High Point's dorms are the best in the world. You're basically in an apartment that will be nicer than your first one after college.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Student's do feel safe at High Point when on the campus grounds

2 College Freshman

Party Scene: Party scene on campus is just so-so. Centennial Square and Greek village are always busy over the weekends, but the parties are very exclusive sometimes. Parties in other dorms can't get very big before security comes and breaks them up.

3 College Freshman

Administration: High Point is very lenient when it comes to alcohol and under aged drinking.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek Life is very over hyped on campus. Many people still find things to do without feeling excluded from Greek Life.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: School offers most freshman scholarships upon their initial admittance into High Point, but the amount of money isn't nearly enough for the majority of students

5 College Senior

Campus Food: The food on campus is excellent. The variety is very good. We even have a steakhouse on campus that is amazing and is part of our dining plan. You will not go hungry and is much like "Mama's cooking".

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
