Majors: My major has provided me with an abundance of opportunities. I have been able to serve a short-term study abroad program with those who have the same major as I do, and professors regularly send out information regarding campus events that pertain to my given major, as well as internship and career opportunities. My classes are mainly discussion-based which I thoroughly enjoy, and has a lower number of credits needed to obtain a degree, which allows me to explore other interesting subjects outside of my major. Classes are small, which I enjoy, for the one on one contact with peers and faculty. Faculty is encouraging to using office hours and genuinely care and want to get to know their students.

Overall Experience: The school has provided me with experiences I didn't think it would have. The thing is, you yourself have to get involved, and the mindset of many of the students here is that opportunities need to come to them on their own, which is never going to happen in the real world. The school offers so much.

Overall Experience: I love High Point University. I find that many students consider transferring out after freshmen year, and many of those that I know who do such, regret it later on. High Point is filled with kids who expect a lot, and those kids might often find that the school just doesn't fit their needs, and likely no school will with such attitude. The school is immaculate and no other campus is like it. Once you find where you fit, there is no reason not to be in love with this school.

Majors: I love the professors within my major and they genuinely care about me and my potential academically. Students within my major are close with one another and interactive with one another.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I had an internship last semester which gave me little experience and limited role of what I was hoping for towards my major. I am looking forward to increased internship opportunities in the future.

Campus Food: Beyond plentiful amount of food and very accommodating towards the needs of students.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Academics at this school are average and would be better with the right students on campus.

Diversity: Diversity is a huge issue on campus, including less than 10% of students coming from diverse background groups, and only 1% of faculty being of black descent. My African studies classes are taught by white professors. There is a large gay population on campus, and an even larger in the closet population. The majority of campus is very conservative and the majority of campus is Christian.

Health & Safety: Health Services will typically tell you that you have something you do not, recommend you visit a real doctor, and charge you hundreds of dollars for generic medication like Advil that one could buy at CVS for a few dollars. The campus is otherwise very safe, though there is a huge sexual assault issue that campus administration likes to cover up.

Scholarships: Students are eligible for scholarships that cover up to half of tuition, and in addition can receive several smaller sized scholarships that can add up.

Greek Life: There are a small number of fraternities and sororities on campus and it is constantly being monitored by student life. However, these students are evident throughout campus and do their part in making themselves known and the presence made available.

Overall Experience: This is a growing school among its popularity among those who are looking for potential job candidates and the school does a good job for those students who utilize career and internship services.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: People too often claim that there is a limited party scenes, but these are typically freshmen students who have not familiarized themselves with campus, or are not involved in Greek life.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Students lack school spirit in attending varsity campus events, though the facilities are impeccable. Intramural sports are extremely popular.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is okay, with students opting for a few close options, while the majority of restaurants are located a little farther away.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is top of the line. It is very hard after freshmen year to be able to live in standard tier housing, so I would say housing upgrade costs are inevitable, but are very nice.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: The faculty genuinely care about their students and want them to do well. Always willing to meet and have generally flexible schedules that allow you to do so. Faculty encourage you to visit during office hours whether it be to discuss academics or for friendly conversation.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: The direct area outside of campus is not the safest of all places, however within a 15 minute drive, there is plenty to do.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The people are generally good people when you find those that you form your relationships with.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: The school has provided me with a coursework that is easier than my high school's. Teachers try to take their courses seriously, but likely are discouraged by the students attitude.

Athletics: Men's basketball is huge on campus. The school has many free sporting events, but men's basketball is D1 and the team is really good, so it is the most popular.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Many students like to live on campus. There is "off-campus housing" but it is owned by the university. It just means that the students are a little bit further away from campus. No one lives outside of the neighborhood near campus.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There is always something happening in Blessing, Finch, Greek Village or Centennial.

Overall Experience: This university is truly a hidden gem. This university reflects the true meaning of entrepreneurial spirit. It was reinvented in one of the worst economic times in history, and has done nothing but grown. The university is in little to no debt, and thrives off of its alumni. The students are motivated and truly love the school. At High Point, students are known by name and they are not just a number. The professors make themselves available, are passionate about their subject, and want the students to learn and succeed. High Point is an all-inclusive school, so students do not need to pay extra for events outside of school. There is a convenient "trolly" system that takes students to different locations in town. The university is one of the safest schools in the country, and one of the most motivating.

Campus Housing: The housing is incredible. No matter how old a dorm may be, they all look just as nice-if not more-as a hotel. All dorms were recently renovated and there are many new dorms on campus. The only community style bathrooms are in Millis and The Women's Complex and they are always kept clean. If something ever breaks, students can call "campus enhancement" and they will fix it. The rooms are very spacious and well presented.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, the HPU experience is nothing less than “extraordinary." Most students are happy to be attending such a fantastic school and are actually sad to be going home at breaks. The campus has such a welcoming atmosphere that students feel that they are at home no matter how far they have to travel to get there. Students become so involved with friends, clubs, sports, and organizations on campus that leaving all of that to go home is sad for a lot of students. When it comes to preparing students for the future, High Point gives them every opportunity, and all they have to do is take it. High Point produces well-rounded students who are prepared to enter graduate school or the job market as soon as they graduate. With a focus on a real world experience in the University's education, students leave HPU with the competence to jump into the workforce. Through internships and hands-on classroom work, students can feel confident they have the skills to succeed.

High Point is different from so many other schools because it is a small school with large-school facilities. The University has the resources of big schools, but the friendly and caring atmosphere and personal attention of a smaller institution. Professors know students by name and take an interest with what they are doing in and out of the classroom. High Point values a student's whole education, not what is just limited to the classroom. The professors and administration work on molding students not just academically, but also instilling in them a sense of generosity, self-awareness, and kindness toward their environment and fellow man.
