Hanover College is a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and is a Division III school, so many students get to continue their athletic careers after high school. Hanover students play competitively in varsity sports like baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, men's and women's golf, lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Many alumni and community members support the teams and tailgate before games, but not many students seem to attend sporting events.
All Hanover students must take two physical activity courses that are taught by the coaches and use the high-quality athletic facilities at the Horner Center, the same facilities used by the athletes and teams. Intramural sports like floor hockey, kickball, and sand volleyball, among others, are popular with the whole student body.
