3 College Freshman

Parking: Parking spaces are convenient but spots can be hard to find at times

3 College Student

Parking: The price would be the problem here because people pay for their own parking spot which may or may not be by their classes or dorm.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: The permit cost is not bad however the parking spaces are limited. Ticketing and fines are unreasonable. A car is not needed on campus, however in order to get off campus it is necessary.

3 College Freshman

Parking: In order to park in certain areas on campus a student must have a parking decal (permit) for that particular area. Each decal cost a different price. Therefore if you want to park closer to your classes I recommend that you be willing to spend a little more money.

Student Author OverviewWhat's this?

View student contributors
Parking on campus can become a challenge due to the lack of spaces. Public transportation is not that reliable, so students are often forced to bring their own vehicles to campus. On-campus parking is very limited, and parking for off-campus students is such an inconvenience that some students just prefer to live on campus. Off-campus students park in the Convocation Center parking lots. If they are running behind schedule, they will more than likely have to park in the farthest lot students have, nicknamed "Africa" because of how far away it is from lecture halls. Decals are becoming more and more expensive—more of a liability than asset for some. Having a car on campus can become more of a burden than an advantage. The process of registering your vehicle with the school can become a web of confusion. Make sure you make the proper preparations to bring your car. Otherwise, it will be quite the task to gain access to the campus. Students without current decals or off-campus decals cannot come onto campus until after 5 p.m. Freshmen and sophomores are prohibited to have cars unless they have permission from the University. Be mindful of where you park, too, or you could find your car ticketed or with a beautiful yellow boot.

Getting a Parking Permit
Only juniors and seniors can have cars on campus. Students, on or off campus, have to purchase decals for their vehicles. On-campus students can park anywhere on campus at any time. Commuter students must park in the Convocation parking lot, which is also known by students as "Africa" because it is such a far walk to classes. The parking there is always limited, and one is often forced to park in the overflow lot which is even farther.
