5 College Freshman

Athletics: It's nothing then teamwork but when your team is your family, it makes things better.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: As an athlete, I feel like they should make some improvements for the field, courts and track for all teams. I feel as if the weight room should accommodate a better variety of things and for it to be bigger or for us to have more than 1. It's sad that the football players do not have names on the back of their jerseys but the lacrosse team just became a D1 sport last year and they had names on their jersey. I just feel like overall there needs to be major improvements for Athletics (Locker rooms, facilities, gyms, field for the throwers, etc.)

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: My school has a great deal of pride and it shows at our football and basketball games. I'm convinced the entire school, or close to it, comes out to all the games sporting their blue and white. Not to mention the support for our new Division I Men's Lacrosse team!

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletic events bring everyone close like a family. Don't get me wrong we have non-athletic events as well that are very important and bring us together but at the games everyone there is to support the team to a victory.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: I work a lot so I don't pay attention

"Move the chains! Touchdown Pirates!" The announcer at every home game announces this after our football has scored. With our university mascot the Pirate and our school colors being reflex blue and white, our athletics are certainly a force to be reckoned with. Athletics is important to student life and alumni. During Homecoming, there is a thick atmosphere of pride and excitement for the football game, which is usually against our rival school, Howard. Students, alumni, faculty, and administration can be seen sporting Greek or Hampton paraphernalia. Football is tackled in Armstrong Stadium and basketball is slam-dunked in our Convocation Center. Hampton Pirates athletics offers six varsity sports for men and eight for women. There has a been a slight decline in school spirit, but gradually it is restoring to what it once was. For recreational purposes, the Holland Gymnasium and Student Center are available for students to use on a daily basis for exercise and pastimes. The Student Center even has a bowling alley!
