Student Body: The student body is very diverse at my school; there are all types of races, ages, and religions in every class. I think everybody accepts and sees everybody as equal. I don't see any challenges or obstacles between people just because they're different.

College Junior

Career Services: I am not sure, I haven't ever inquired about post-grad services or have ever been told about them.

3 College Junior

Tuition & Financial Aid: As I mentioned before, I have had a difficult time with financial aid and have an on-going battle.

4 College Junior

Student Body: The student body at HCC is pretty average. I guess now that I am older I notice how many young kids attend the college that don't seem to take it too seriously. However, there is a large part of the student body that are mature and very determined to pursue their future careers.

4 College Junior

Online Courses: I have had great experiences with online classes. I work 2 jobs, so I try to take an online course when I can so that I can spend time at home while working on school. Most professors are great with staying in touch with the students through e-mail and seem to really enjoy teaching online. There is more workload with an online course, which is expected since it is so convenient to not travel to classes.

Academic Flexibility: The only hassle I have ever had with HCC is in the financial aid department. I've been on my own without any assistance since the age of 17, for some reason I had to include my parents, and their re-marriages on my financial aid. I was finally eligible to be on my own this year, at 25 years old and I still, for some reason, can't not get any financial help.

Campus Resources: HCC has a pretty up to date library with lots of resources. The library is also great for studying because it has a quiet zone. The college is currently updating their campus and is doing some major improvements, I am excited to see how it turns out! I start the first ever Dental Hygiene program this fall, at HCC. I was able to take a tour of the new Dental section of the career programs building and it is gorgeous. They did a wonderful job making sure that we have all the best technology and equipment.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Community college definitely has its perks. It's cheaper than a four-year school and is often a lot closer, offering a lot of the same courses students can apply to a degree if they transfer. Hagerstown Community College definitely helps students achieve both personal and academic goals. With a wide range of both credit and non-credit courses—including "skill-building" courses for personal enrichment—there is plenty to choose from. The school offers services such as the College for Kids, Teen Parent Program, and child care in the Children's Learning Center, making it easy for Junior to get in on the experience, too, while offering Mom and Dad a break.

HCC offers such a wide variety of classes that it makes it easy to pick the courses necessary for a degree or even for personal enrichment. This helps prepare students for a future career or to succeed even more at a current one. Professors are open to questions and suggestions, offering flexibility to accommodate students' needs and, often, extra credit coursework to make up for lost participation or assignment points.  While working on group projects can sometimes be difficult (since everyone lives off campus), the school has several locations on campus where groups can meet in between classes or over lunch. New renovations are underway that will make the campus even more accessible to students and help enrich their overall experience.
