3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Being that it is a community college, the degree doesn't hold a lot of stock in the professional world. It is unclear that having a degree from this college would increase chances of getting a higher paying job. Af far as I can tell, the alumni network is virtually nonexistent. I've never used the career center services, and I haven't seen employers on campus.

Academic Experience: Studio Arts is awesome, and there are plenty of good professors. Most of the work is done in class, depending on the professor. You will leave knowing a lot more about the programs than before. The facilities, however, need to be updated.

Overall Experience: I've only been to Grossmont and Cuyamaca, but so far my experience there has been good. Most professors are prepared and clear on what the expect, and usually effective in teaching. Success, however, usually falls on the student doing their part, which I believe is important.

Academic Experience: It is very rare to find a chemical engineering major at my school. Mostly everyone is a biology major. In my chemistry classes everyone was a biology major except me. I have also yet to meet a chemistry major. The vicinity to UCSD attracts a lot of biology majors to take courses at this school. The transfer rate to UCSD is also very high and we have numerous TAG programs that guarantee admission to a certain UC school as long as you have a certain gpa.

Since it is only a two year institution there is very little internship opportunities.

Overall Experience: This school is what you make out of it. Throw yourself out there and talk to classmates, join clubs, or go to other school parties. *cough* SDSU *cough*.

Academic Flexibility: For the general classes such as english and the humanities, you can always find a time that fits your schedule. I had two english classes from 6pm to 9pm on Fridays. A lot of full time workers attended this class and the professors are understanding towards full-time workers. The night classes were actually the funnest classes I have had. People would bring pizza and coffee for our class.

The biology and chemistry classes are very hard to get into. I have always been on the waiting list despite having an early registration date. You just have to cross your fingers and hope you get in. Most of the time I do get in right before the deadline to crash into the class.

Online Courses: The online classes here are very easy for the humanities and social science courses. I have taken psychology, sociology, and two history classes online. The exams were a mix of multiple choice and free response questions. There was usually one 5-6 page paper due near the end of the semester. Assignments and Discussions were due every Sunday at 11:59 pm. These classes would be great to take online if you are just getting through your general education requirements. Always look up the professor on the ratemyprofessors website before enrolling in a course.

Career Services: Grossmont is a two year institution where you can get your associates or a technical certificate. I don't have too much knowledge about the post-grad services at my school, but I know there is a career center on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The class sizes at Grossmont are small so there is more interaction with professors. Most of the professors are Grossmont have been or are current professors at UC schools and Cal state schools, so the course doesn't deviate a lot from the courses at a 4 year institution.

I have yet to have a professor that uses power point, they just don't use it. Instead professors will lecture, but write the big ideas on the board. Students at anytime could raise their hand and ask a question. The professors don't give out study guides, but then again you really don't need one since your lecture notes and assignments are what's going to be on the exam.

From what my friends have told me, Grossmont is very friendly towards english learners. You can take classes to better your english and there are also areas in the tutor center where english learners can get help on their assignments.

Overall Experience: I came to Grossmont for its superb chemistry department. The professors expect more out of students than just understanding the basics. I have rarely had multiple choice questions on exams and because of this I feel my knowledge of the subject is more expansive. The professors at Grossmont are more relaxed and down-to-earth than one would expect. Most professors are open top questions and have office hours available throughout the week. Since there is only 24 - 35 students in a class, there is more one-on-one time with the professor.

The students at Grossmont are very diverse and come from many parts of the world. I have made many friends from China, Korea, India, Lebanon, Russia, Germany, and Britain. I was a very sheltered person coming out of high school, but now I have a thriving social life. My friends and I go on trips together. We have gone to Los Angeles, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas. Our next trip we plan to go to the Phillipine Islands and Australia.

Academic Flexibility: Most of the courses I took were transferable. There was a vast majority of class schedules to choose from.

3 College Junior

Online Courses: Online courses work for some people just not for me. I prefer to learn in a classroom setting. I feel as if I learn more this way.

3 College Junior

Career Services: I have not gotten to this point yet, but I hear it is helpful.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Class size only of the classes I took only went up to about 60 students per teacher. The majority of professors really care about student success and they give us, the students, all the necessary tools to pass the courses.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: It depends on the degree you get, but usually it is not negative. It is usually impressive for employers to see that you got a nursing degree from Grossmont.

4 College Junior

Academic Experience: I am majoring in nursing. Nursing is a highly impacted program; many people want to get into the program. It is a difficult program, but everyone says that it is a very good one. Plus, now they offer a BSN degree from Point Loma Nazarene which is very nice.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The staff at the school where all helpful towards my success. There was a counselor that tried to discourage me from the path I wanted to take, but the other counselors were pretty helpful. I enjoyed almost all my classes and teachers. I have learned a lot from them. I wouldn't mind choosing Grossmont all over again if I had to start over.

Academic Flexibility: It has been very accomodating

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I will have a better answer in August

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: first time to college, so I have nothing to compare it to.

5 College Junior

Academic Flexibility: The school is right near my home and they have classes ranging from early morning to late at night. overall has been an amazingly convenient situation being here at Grossmont College.

4 College Junior

Online Courses: I have taken 1 online course. The experience was not difficult or complicated, but I prefer going into a classroom because of the quality of the instruction and because of the environment of school rather than being in my room for class.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: My experience in these classes at Grossmont for the most part are very good. The size of the classes are smaller so it allows for more of an interaction between student and teacher which enhances learning, the whole purpose of the school.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Grossmont has many good connections with various colleges like SDSU and UCSD which make this an excellent college to transfer from.
