Online Courses: Online courses are not troublesome at Golden West; they are manageable and most courses offer a convenient time range to submit, so deadlines are not unreasonable. Personally, I prefer in-person courses, but when I absolutely cannot fit in a course, I will take an online course.

Student Body: Being at a community college, the students range in a variety of ages; basically every age group is represented, though most of the students are young and looking to transfer. There is not much interaction within the student body as club participation is weak; I would know, having been VSA vice president for a term. It is extremely difficult to get members to join and attend meetings because everyone just wants to focus on their studies to do well and transfer out to higher universities. But there is diversity in the student body and while there are not many clubs to represent the economic, political, or religious affiliations within the student body, there are certainly enough ethnic groups, though attendance is poor.

Career Services: Most students who enroll here are looking to transfer to a higher college or university to obtain a higher degree. I don't have much experience/exposure to the career center, alumni network, and job prospects. I know that the school offers work-study programs but I have never had experience in these programs.

Academic Experience: As an English Literature major, the English courses at Golden West are extremely enjoyable, mostly because of the enthusiasm and encouragement from the professors. Everyone is extremely passionate about the subject matter and are extremely open-minded to encourage participating in class and voicing thoughts about certain pieces of literature. The workload is manageable, but also challenging, as the professors choose pieces that provoke thought and analysis.

Academic Experience: The professors are great, especially once you get past the general education classes and take the more challenging courses. The professors are extremely helpful and personable. They are passionate about their subject material and make classes enjoyable. They will do all they can to help you succeed, to extending study hours or staying behind after class to explain material or just to chat. The curriculum is challenging and beneficial. Tutoring options are wonderful as the tutors are always well-prepared to lecture or work one-on-one. Class registration is painless, quick, and easy; even the waitlist option isn't too terrible to sit through. You almost always get all of your classes.

Campus Resources: Of the three community colleges within the Coastline Community College District, Golden West could be considered average in the resources on campus. While the administration is very helpful, friendly, and personable, the school does not receive as much funding as other schools in the district. Laboratories can definitely be upgraded, as can the buildings' infrastructure and wifi network throughout campus. The library, which was newly refurbished, is extremely handy when you need to print out a paper and is great for studying during breaks between classes, though the book selection could be updated. Campus activities need to be more widely broadcast and student motivation to participate in campus activities should be advertised, as most students normally pass by the tabling area and don't pay much attention to the clubs or organizations on campus. The student center is a mediocre place to spend free time outside of the library. There is a small game room in the back with pool tables and such; the student center is mostly comprised of tables that students can sit at to study or eat and chat.

Student Body: Our student body tries to be nice to everyone and is very friendly about showing people where something is. I do not see any bad things happening to students such as sexual harassment etc. Everyone is kind enough to everyone and it is a pretty nice community in general.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Financial aid is not hard to get in general. If you stay on top of your applications and dates, then you will be fine. If you need any help with all these things, there is a help center at the campus that will guide you through your process. They are very nice about it and try to help you as much as possible.

Career Services: I have not taken or seen any post-grad services around. I am still new to college, therefore I would have no right to say anything about their career center or post-grad services.

Academic Experience: Programming classes aren't the easiest thing to take, but it doesn't help that all these classes are at night. They have okay teachers as long as you interact with them and take time out of your schedule to ask for help.

Academic Experience: There are some really great professors at Golden West College, however, it may be hard to find the best professor for you, because there are some not-so-great professors as well. Class registration is pretty easy, because it is online. The courses offered at Golden West is like at any college. Particularly, Golden West has a pretty great choir/music program that people might be interested in.

Campus Resources: There are lots of opportunities for students in many different things. The school helps you with transfers, scholarships, and they have many other workshops to help you out. The staff will try to help out as kindly as possible.

Academic Flexibility: GWC is one of the most accessible community colleges around OC area for class availability (except the very impacted nurse program).

Tuition & Financial Aid: I haven't used financial aid but I can say that tuition is very reasonable for the quality of education you are getting. Lots of bang for your buck.

3 College Freshman

Career Services: They also have a pretty solid Career Center with tons of resources and people their willing to help you find the right path for you. They also provide a multitude of aptitude tests to better understand your goals and aspirations.

College Freshman

Online Courses: I have not taken any online courses yet so I cannot opine.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Concerning class size, it's hard to beat GWC. You will have a mix of small, medium and large (forum size) classes.

4 College Freshman

Academic Experience: I'm double majoring in Communication Studies and Philosophy and I think that both disciplines have exceptionally good professors. Communication professors are especially understanding, attentive, clear and willing to help you.

3 College Freshman

Academic Experience: For all the cuts that CC.CC are suffering, GWC is managing pretty well.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: GWC has a fantastic and modernized Student Resources Center in which you can study quietly. It also is adjacent to their tutoring center and they have tons of computer stations (including Macs) to work from.
