3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I've been accepted to this college but they have no idea how to help me determine how to pay for school. And their response is basically like, "well... Good luck?"

4 College Senior

Academic Flexibility: All of my credits transferred from another community college after I moved, so there was no frustrations when transferring.

4 College Senior

Online Courses: I love online courses, because you're able to do the work at any time, as long as it's by the due date. The workload is usually wonderful, and the professors are very helpful, and are usually quick to reply.

3 College Senior

Career Services: The administration regularly gives out job prospects for students to pursue if they want a new, and usually well paying job.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: The professors, in my experience, are very understanding and hands-on with the students. Since the class sizes are usually smaller, it's a lot of one-on-one, which can be very helpful if you have trouble understanding some things about the curriculum.

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: I haven't been involved in job/internship prospects yet, or the quality of the alumni network, but I do know that the administration sends out a lot of emails that have job offerings.

3 College Senior

Academic Experience: There are a lot of classes I have to take to get a simple certificate. There are at least three different classes that could be condensed into one or two, and that's a little upsetting.

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: It's a school with a small amount of students, and a lot of staff to help you with anything you need! The classes are usually small, so there's a lot of one-on-one with the teachers. The administrative office is equipped to help you with almost any questions you have. They have a cafeteria with a lot of food choices, vending machines, comfortable seating, and a large TV to set up video games on. It has a lot of resources for a small school, and it will surprise you how wonderful it is.

Academic Flexibility: There was a time where at the beginning of the summer I had a scheduled class at the specific campus I wanted, but then they changed it and I didn't find out until the first day of classes. I ended up with a Saturday class..

Online Courses: There were a few professors who lacked information. And it was hard to point out what you were talking about over email. Not that online classes are bad, (they are convenient) but, I would rather have face to face interactions.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: The professors are great. You just have to get to know them early on in the semester and not wait to last minute to talk to them and try and get your grade up. That won't help you at all.

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: Having a job already and getting a degree in general studies, I do not have to have an internship or anything. So I don't hear much information about it.

3 College Senior

Academic Experience: Depending on what subjects you like can depict how you feel the work load will be. But you definitely have to work to get the grades/ gpa that you want.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: It's a very "doable" situation at GCC. If someone doesn't help you with one thing, you will find someone else who can help and then some.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: Absolutely love my school! Talk about it to everyone. Small campuses, friendly staff, and not too expensive!

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love Germanna. Most of the staff is very helpful. However, some people in the financial aid office and counseling office act like they don't want to help very much.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: Honestly, the only reason I did not give Germanna a 5 out of 5 is because of the counseling services. The lack of willingness I've encountered from them is undeniable. Throughout my 3 years of attending classes here, I've figured out what classes I need to graduate, by myself. However, despite this, Germanna is a really amazing community college to attend, in my opinion. To start off, the process of signing up for classes has been made to be easily accessible online which is very convenient. You can tell that the faculty take pride in working where they do. Not only is the campus always clean, but the teachers are always helpful. Even my most disliked teacher was willing to work with a student in order to gain a better grade/do better in college.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: It's was hard at first and got easier.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: I took most of my classes online but teachers were always straightforward and very pleasant to deal with. Also the staff at the college is always helpful and nice.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Could be better I'm still learning how to use my online student account and its my 3rd semester.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Just started out it seem okay.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Just started sonits difficult to completely rate the school.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Because Germanna is a community college, it offers a lot of personal attention that I've found to be really beneficial. All of the professors that I've had, whether they are good or not, have always been willing to work with me to the best of their abilities to help succeed. However, I do find that dealing with the counselor's office can be a bit difficult.

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: It's was not my first choice to go to a community college. but it was the best choice for me and I saved a lot of money with the decision I made.

Germanna isn’t really a school that students dream of attending—sports are unimportant, family legacies are irrelevant, and rigorous academics are lacking. Still, students say that for what it is—a community college that allows students to complete associate’s degrees, earn career certificates, and transfer to four-year universities—Germanna is an impressive institution. Students come from around the globe, and each has a different reason for choosing to study at Germanna. Some attend because they cannot afford the tuition at private schools, others because they want to complete general education requirements before transferring to a four-year university without as much debt, and some come to get an associate’s degree or career certificate, so they can prepare to enter the workforce and earn higher salaries. Other reasons students come to Germanna is because they weren’t accepted to any four-year universities, they have health concerns that prevent them from moving from home, they did poorly in high school and want to prove to four-year schools that they have become serious about their studies, or they are learning English and want to study in a safe and friendly environment before they enter the workforce.

While many Germanna’s students groan about still living at home and frequently joke about being in “13th grade” and having to deal with drama typically associated with middle and high school, overall, they say they are happy to be at Germanna. The faculty, administration, and staff constantly make studying here a pleasant experience because they are warm, friendly, engaging, and fun, and they always have time to speak with students. Most of the students are also friendly and pleasant, and they appreciate and take advantage of all that Germanna offers them. Okay, so not one Germanna graduate has become president of the United States, won a Nobel Peace Prize, or anything of the sort, but nearly every Fredericksburg resident has some connection to Germanna. Nearly every student here will say that studying at Germanna has been a rewarding and life-changing experience.
