4 College Junior

Campus Housing: It's great because it is the city and there is so much to do! However, because it is the city, it gets pretty hectic and busy.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The environment is great and the students and faculty are all great. If I could do it again, I would. One thing that I wish would be different is how much the tuition is.

3 College Junior

Athletics: The athletics are okay. This school is more of a Law and Medical field school and most students are very studious.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: There is a lot of GWPD that takes care of the general safety. But noone cares about sexual assaults or similar issues. It would take ages to find support for victims because schools do not want to be loosing reputation when releasing these cases to the public.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: It is hard to be international in the classes. Most of the material is targeted to American students.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: I only used GWrok, that is a very helpful tool

2 College Junior

Campus Housing: Housing is extremely expensive! I live off-campus this year and it is of the better quality and much cleaner and so much cheaper, even though i leave only couple blocks from Foggy Bottom.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life is a big part of GW but people are forced to be different when you enter sorority or fraternity. You can'y be yourself anymore. It also costs a lot of money to be a part of Greek life.

4 College Junior

Athletics: I am not in any sport team. However, every student can try sports with LSPA courses and practice them by themselves.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Some courses that were available when I was freshman are not available anymore. There are some issues within the groups of courses we have to chose from. Sometimes, you have to take classes that you don't like and not interested in only because you can't get into those you would like.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Cops are everywhere in DC. I feel safe walking around at night.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: My professors during my first semester were excellent. Many had interesting professional experience in their fields and actually seemed to care about most students. The professors are great, the students are not, so professors get excited about the starter students. Most of my intro classes were large lectures, but the discussion sections with TAs were small. My TAs were good too. There are a lot of interesting courses offered. The problem is registration - its like the hunger games trying to get into some of them.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: If GW is good at anything, it's preparing students for a career.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: GW put me out on the Mount Vernon campus despite that I did not apply to live there. There are upsides: spacious rooms, private bath, better dining, and trees. They do provide a shuttle that runs frequently to the main campus, and is on-average 20 minutes. But, living out there is still a huge hassle. I've been late to class because of traffic and I can't possibly just stop by my room if I need something. It makes going out to parties a lot more difficult. GW should not house students out there.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greeks are rich and cliquey. Some have their own housing. They are the only source of parties on campus. However, the professional greek orgs are good for networking and making friends with similar interests.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: I don't think anyone pays attention to sports.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The student body is extremely rich. Being from a solidly middle-class family, I've found it difficult relating to other students. Also, they're typically not academically oriented. However, there are some students that are on significant merit-scholarships (like myself), who are focussed on school. Social life is dominated by greek organizations, but there are professional greek orgs that are great for networking and making friends. My professors are excellent; they're experts in their fields and seem to care about students. The school's location in the heart of DC provides unique opportunities. Everyone here is very focussed on their career and building a good resume. Students do a lot of internships. The administration does not care about students at all, and will try to charge you for everything. There doesn't seem to be any sense of community here at all, people just do their own thing. If I wasn't receiving 25k in scholarships, I don't think GW would be worth the price.

Overall Experience: This school is below average

1 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in Thurston Hall, the freshman dorm that houses 1000 freshman, and it is absolutely terrible. The building is dirty and moldy and the rooms are tiny. No privacy.

1 College Freshman

Greek Life: The greeks are extremely cliquey and superficial. They think they are superior to everyone else on campus. The sad part is that if you want to have a social life at GW you have to be a part of it.

Athletics: No one cares about sports at this school. No school spirit.

1 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I just finished my first semester and I absolutely hate GW. The school does not care about its students at all and there is absolutely no sense of community. GW is not a true college experience. I feel like, by coming to GW, I've skipped college and gone straight to living on my own (because the school does absolutely nothing to help you adjust and feel like you are a part of something), except I am surrounded by snobby kids who act like they're in high school. So all around, it is a rough situation. Maybe the experience wouldn't be as bad as I was able to find normal, down to earth people who I like spending time with, but a majority of the student population is comprised of rude, materialistic, arrogant kids.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Overall, my experience has been great. The classes are interesting and the professors, overall, are engaging, passionate and kind. However, the administration is a big issue and seem to not really care about the students and the amount of money you have to pay is not reflected in many aspects of the community like housing, dining, and general conveniences.

Drug Safety: People seem pretty straight edge here so there's a large population that would only smoke weed or take adderall. There are others though and if you want to find more drugs, you'll be able to do it. Being a rich kid school, there is cocaine use.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: The city has a lot to offer but GW doesn't. There aren't a lot of campus parties so if you're into that, kickbacks with your friends would probably be a better bet. Thursdays and Saturdays are the nights to go out. Almost nobody goes out of a Friday which is really weird.

Students at GW tend to complain a lot about the pricey tuition, lack of school spirit, perhaps unnecessary new facilities, and excessive nickel-and-diming. However, most students stay at GW for four years—GW’s retention rate is 91 percent. Many students are also upset about how GW compares academically to other schools, and that the science labs and facilities are run-down and old. GW students want the best and sometimes the University does not live up to their expectations.

Although GW provides students with a large variety of entertaining on-campus activities, students can also go off campus and enjoy the city. The University’s location in DC makes most GW students’ experiences worthwhile and interesting. GW would not be the same, nor as wonderful, if it were not located in DC. The city adds life, variety, and uniqueness to the campus environment. Students have the opportunity to land incredible internships while taking classes. The city also offers countless off-campus shows, productions, sporting events, restaurants and bars, museums, and (of course) the monuments to visit. Washington is the perfect college town because it attracts young people from all over the country, gives students amazing opportunities, and is easy to manage. GW is a great place to be—most students are happy to spend their four years here.
