3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life does have a presence on campus and usually throw all the parties.

Weather: Coming from New England, DC is warmer in the winter which is nice and when snow falls everyone freaks out and the city shuts down. It does get warm during the summer, but most people are back home anyway.

Transportation: Campus transportation easily and freely takes you between Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom. There are also campus taxis to get you around safely at night. There are also many DC taxis that run all over campus, zip cars are readily available, and the metro has a stop on campus.

3 College Freshman

Technology: Technology is average- bring your laptop, printing and wireless network are average.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: This is an expensive school, so kids who attend here do have money to spend. The school does give out merit scholarships when you are accepted, but don't really expect financial aid.

Campus Housing: Freshman get the old buildings. They are old, dirty, moldy, and rusty. However, they are an excellent location. As you get older you get nicer housing!

Local Area: The monuments, White House, and Smithsonians are all your fingertips! The metro is quick and easily accessible all over the city. Shopping in Georgetown is great and there are amazing restaurants all over the place!

Party Scene: It's a city.... of course its going to be good.

Athletics: No one cares about GW sports except for our basketball team and very few actually pay attention to them.

3 College Freshman

Administration: The school does enforce underage drinking, drug, and noise violations because we are in a city environment. Parking is a non-issue at our school because of the city environment.

Overall Experience: Living in the Washington DC is amazing. I live three blocks from the monuments and four blocks from the White House. As a freshman, I even have an internship on Capitol Hill! The city offers so much and the school gives you access to so many different opportunities! I would definitely pick this school even if I could pick all over again.

Health & Safety: Health Services is overpriced and not very helpful, but is available when students need it; they are efficient when getting all students vaccines that are required to attend school. Being in a city there are areas where there are crimes, however campus police always patrol our area and are readily available. Emerg is also present to assist in medical emergencies on campus and are very efficient.

Party Scene: I don't know about it.

Drug Safety: I don't know about it.

Transportation: It's DC so there's lots of options.

Overall Experience: I've had no major problems so far and I'm happy.

Campus Food: Not enough cheap and varied choices.

Academics: I'm a political communications major, so I'm in the smaller School of Media and Public Affairs. It's an incredible program with talented and passionate professors and interesting courses. Internships and job opportunities are rampant throughout SMPA. I cannot say enough good things about it!

Academics: Most of the professors I've had are passionate and engaging, but I've also had one or two professors who were dull, and terrible about updating grades.

Greek Life: Greek life at GW is awesome-it's here and relevant, but not suffocating. Greeks are without a doubt the leaders on campus- Student Body president and tons of Colonial Cabinet members are greek. Most greek chapters have houses on townhouse row, but there are also greek dorms and "off-campus" greek housing. The frats throw awesome parties.

Campus Quality: GW is a thriving community, with pretty good access to facilities. The most amazing part, however, is the ability to simply walk down to the White House or National Mall whenever you get bored!

Campus Quality: The libraries are nice and clean, but there's a major lack of green spaces. Spring Fling (a concert) is a big deal, as are famous speakers visiting campus.

Guys & Girls: The best way to find straight guys (ones you'd actually want to hookup with/date) is to go to frats. All the guys are smart and hardworking-that's how they got into GW. My boyfriend and I have been exclusive for a few months, and I would say relationships are pretty common at GW, as well as just random hookups.

Campus Food: There's only one "on campus" dining area-J Street. The food is pretty subpar and expensive, but there's a ton of vegetarian and vegan options.

Students at GW tend to complain a lot about the pricey tuition, lack of school spirit, perhaps unnecessary new facilities, and excessive nickel-and-diming. However, most students stay at GW for four years—GW’s retention rate is 91 percent. Many students are also upset about how GW compares academically to other schools, and that the science labs and facilities are run-down and old. GW students want the best and sometimes the University does not live up to their expectations.

Although GW provides students with a large variety of entertaining on-campus activities, students can also go off campus and enjoy the city. The University’s location in DC makes most GW students’ experiences worthwhile and interesting. GW would not be the same, nor as wonderful, if it were not located in DC. The city adds life, variety, and uniqueness to the campus environment. Students have the opportunity to land incredible internships while taking classes. The city also offers countless off-campus shows, productions, sporting events, restaurants and bars, museums, and (of course) the monuments to visit. Washington is the perfect college town because it attracts young people from all over the country, gives students amazing opportunities, and is easy to manage. GW is a great place to be—most students are happy to spend their four years here.
