Campus Food: I would like more variety and healthier options such as fruit

Campus Food: From my experience of meal plans, all of the freshman who are living on campus are forces to have the anytime dining meal plan option. I had the silver anytime dining meal plan and i was not happy with it for the most part. Sure having it anytime is great, but basically the campus is forcing you to eat at only three locations out of the multiple places on campus. The meal plan gives you $100 of bonus bucks to use at other locations, but those go by really quickly. Also the amount of money you have to pay for the meal plan is not worth it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Its really a hit or miss. especially with southside and ikes

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: For the conveniently place dining halls it is usually very 50/50 on having something with lots of variety or it being stale and boring.

3 College Senior

Campus Food: The variety is pretty fantastic, but the food options all close pretty early.

The best thing about food at George Mason University is definitely the variety. From fast food giants like Taco Bell and Burger King to Mason’s own bar and restaurant, the Mason Rathskeller, there is no shortage of options. La Patisserie, or "La Pat," which features sandwiches and bagels, is a student favorite, and it's crowded during all three meals of the day. In all, Mason offers 27 dining locations in different buildings around campus, including a brand new dining hall, Southside. This all-you-can-eat, buffet-style dining hall is a campus favorite for students with meal plans. While there are lots of options, students say they quickly get bored of the Johnson Center Food Court and opt to go to Southside, which houses six different specialty food vendors under one roof. Without meal plans, eating on campus can get pretty pricey, so the best option for students living in an apartment with a kitchen is to cook their own meals. There are two on-campus convenience stores, which serve as mini grocery stores for students who opt to cook their own meals.

In addition to the Johnson Center Food Court and Southside, Mason has a Starbucks, which is open 24-hours every day of the week except Friday and Saturday, as well as a hot dog cart and cafes centrally located throughout campus—convenient for grabbing a quick bite on the way to class. Ike’s, located in Presidents Park, is a popularly destination for freshmen. The diner is open every night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. and features a full menu, including student-favorite late-night snack, oreo pie.

Special Options
Even the pickiest eaters should have no trouble finding foods they like on Mason's long list of options. Sangam, in the Johnson Center food court, serves up halal meat and other Indian cuisine, convenient for Muslim students, and Cafe a la Cart, an outside hot-dog stand is perfect for students who need to grab a bite to eat on the way to class. There are unlimited options for vegetarians, who can pick from entrees like veggie chili and grilled vegetable burritos at Southside, or even veggie burgers from Burger King.
Did You Know?
Damon's Grill, a popular franchise that used to be housed in the bottom of Student Union Building I, is now the Mason Rathskeller, or as it is fondly known by students, "The Rat." This popular sports bar and restaurant originally appeared on campus in 1988, but was replaced with the Corner Pocket game room following the opening and popularity of the Johnson Center eateries in 1996. After its reinstatement, the restaurant reclaimed its popularity with sports fans, who can be seen on game nights perched in front of one The Rat's big screens, sipping on the restaurant's on-tap beers.
