4 College Sophomore

Technology: Printing is limited, but it's a very high limit, and if you run out you just ask for more. Network and wifi speed sucks. They really need to boost it. There are many computer labs, so that's never a problem, but sometimes computers stop working and it's a while before they're fixed which is bothersome when you're in a smaller computer lab.

Technology: You can get by without a computer but I would not suggest it.

Most students bring their own computers to campus and use the labs only secondarily. The labs usually have several computers available except during the end of each term. Computer access is an important part of Furman life for communication, research, and entertainment. Many professors use Moodle to post class assignments and discussions, which students are expected to check frequently. E-mail is also an important resource for professors to notify their students of announcements. Crowded labs and a slow network are frustrating at times, but these conditions are not the norm.

The department of computing and information services does its best to serve the needs of students. There is at least one computer lab in every academic building, as well as computers in the student center, North Village apartments, and in the library. In addition, Furman recently began providing wireless Internet access throughout of the campus. Sometimes, the network is slow or spotty, and this can be frustrating for the majority of students who rely heavily on computers throughout their day. The computers in the labs are not always the newest and the latest, but the equipment provided is sufficient for most students.
