Party Scene

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Its as fun as you make it. You definitely have to make your own fun and then it is fun.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: AGaian, it is who you surround yourself with and if you make your own fun.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Greenville downtown does have a nice, relaxed night life and there is a shuttle that transports students to and from the campus and Downtown. Greenville, in general, is not known for wild and long parties and they are strict about underage drinking.

2 College Sophomore

Party Scene: If you want frat parties, you have to know who to ask. If you want public parties and are under 21, your only option is the barn, which is terrifying. Your best bet if you're under 21 is to go to a friend's apartment (plan your own small get together).

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: It's okay. Girls can get into any parties and most of the parties are at Fraternity tiny houses.

Student Author OverviewWhat's this?

View student contributors

Due to Furman's official status as a dry institution, parties on campus are virtually non-existent. There are a few rebellious students who smuggle beer into crowded dorm rooms. However, the louder parties end prematurely due to intervention by an RA or from lack of sufficient elbow room for chugging. Instead, most students attend parties at off-campus fraternity houses, or they convene in bars downtown. Students have plenty watering holes to choose from within walking distance. For pool and darts, go to Barley's, and for cheap drinks, go to the Bait Shack. This is the extent of weekend escapades because it's not a party school, but those looking for a good crowd can usually find it.

Students who enjoy the frat scene have little to complain about, but for the rest of the student body, options are limited. If your weekend isn't complete without a
late-night dancing and club-hopping, Furman is not the place to be. Furman students are just not a clubbing type. Many spend Friday and Saturday nights simply going out to eat downtown and hanging out with friends. It's not that Furman students are dull, they just have to get up for church in the morning!

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Connolly's Irish Pub

Connolly's is the closest you will get to an authentic Irish pub around here. Listen to live Irish music, eat great bar food, drink beer, and play darts. Tuesday night trivia contests are popular with Furman students.

This is a good place for pool and frozen drinks. They also have a wide variety of sandwiches and happy hour every night.

128 N. Main St.

(864) 239-2202

East Court Grille & Spirits

Located in the renovated Kent Building, East Court Grille has a great atmosphere. The large restaurant is sometimes rented out by fraternities, but even if there isn't a party going on, it's a great place to go if you want food with your alcohol.

25 E. Court St.

(864) 271-2744

Wild Wing Café

A great place for, well, wings. They also have lots of TVs for watching sports, live bands and nightly drink specials. There is usually a crowd of students hanging out here on weekend nights.

15 W. Washington St.

(864) 242-9453

Gathering Spot

The Gathering Spot is located in the middle of downtown Greenville, so it's a good place for bar hopping. They have live music and fried pickles, making it very crowded all the time.

103 N. Main St.

(864) 271-4972

The Bait Shack

The Bait Shack is a local dive frequented by Furman students looking for a cheap drink. On Thursdays, they have all-you-can-eat crab legs. They also have an endless supply of free peanuts!

109 N. Main St.

(864) 241-0826

Addy's Dutch Café and Restaurant

Addy's is a little more upscale, but it's an authentic Dutch "brown café." It is a fun place to have a good conversation, food, and drinks. Check out Addy's Jazz Festival and drink a good selection of hard-to-find import beers.

17 E. Coffee St.

(864) 232-2339

Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria

Barley's Tap Room is a good place for pizza and beer, and they also have a nice upstairs bar with billiards and darts.

25 W. Washington St.

(864) 232-3706

The Cazbah

The Cazbah is a tapas restaurant and wine bar. While not on the typical student's bar circuit, it's a great place to start or end an evening. The desserts are excellent, and its proximity to the Peace Center for Performing Arts makes it a perfect end after the show.

16 W. McBee Ave.

(864) 241-9909

Blue Ridge Brewing Company

Blue Ridge is a common place to see students any night of the week. They brew their own beer, have patio seating, and the food is good-try the Buffalo Burger.

217 N. Main St.

(864) 232-4677

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

Coffee Underground

When you're underage, your best bet is to go to the frat parties. Or you can skip the alcohol altogether, and just hang out in coffeeshops. Check out the Coffee Underground (864) 298-0494. It has great coffee drinks, desserts, and is a fun place to socialize.
