Parking: Usually convenient parking near your dorm building. Tickets are often and expensive!

3 College Freshman

Parking: Too strict about giving out tickets

3 College Junior

Parking: Furman assumes everyone on campus has a car and thus includes parking fees into tuition. If you don't need a parking permit, you simply fill out a form and get a refund. Parking is very good for all housing locations and the restrictions for your parking permit area are very serious. Furman police give out an exorbitant amount of parking tickets, so don't even think about parking outside your permit area. You are not allowed to drive during class hours, because everything on campus is within a 10 min walk.

You can always find a close parking place at Furman, but in most cases, you are not allowed to park there. Students are only allowed to park in their reserved lot, and most other spaces are either reserved or 15-minute parking. Although most buildings on campus are about a 10-minute walk, many students still wish they could drive to class. Overall, students are able to keep a positive outlook on the parking situation, citing that the small size of Furman's campus makes it an easy place to get around on foot. Furman has also improved parking somewhat by repaving and enlarging parking lots.

Parking at Furman is probably better than most large universities. Every student is able to get a parking permit, and most students have a car. Having a parking space right outside your door is one of the nicest perks of living in the apartments. However, parking restrictions seem to tighten every year. The University removed almost all of the parking outside the library, and they decided to prohibit students from driving their cars to class during the day. What's even more frustrating is Public Safety's unwavering dedication to the enforcement of these policies by way of profuse ticketing.

Once a student accumulates over $100 in ticket fines, or over ten tickets during a term, public safety will place "the boot" on your car. This bright orange lock on your wheel is the scarlet letter of parking violations.
