Local Area: I've lived here my whole life so my perspective probably differs from most students'. I love my hometown of Frostburg. There aren't a lot of opportunities here and there isn't a lot to do, but it has a special place in my heart.

The local atmosphere around Frostburg is pretty boring, in comparison to College Park, Md., Frostburg is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. The townsfolk usually keep to themselves. This town very rarely has any problems, besides the occasional drunken student escapade. Besides the random drunken episodes, Frostburg is a relatively quiet and peaceful town. When a student first moves to campus, his or her first question may be, "What is there to do around here?" Upperclassmen usually answer with the following: "There’s the mall and that's about it." There is not much to do around here. The students rely on each other for entertainment. Most students stay on campus and play football or Frisbee when it is nice outside. Other students like to take a walk, either around campus or off campus, and up to Main Street. All in all, students find ways to amuse themselves.

The other closest college is Allegany College, which is in Cumberland, Md. Cumberland is only about a 15-minute drive from Frostburg. There are more things to do in Cumberland, even though it is also a small town. Cumberland has the Amtrak train station, which students frequently use to travel home and back. Cumberland also has more restaurant and fast food options.
