3 College Freshman

Majors: I haven't been able to delve into my prospective majors much here because I am a freshman, but the relative classes I have taken have been great and invigorating.

2 College Freshman

Diversity: The town and campus are not very diverse, however, there is ample opportunity to learn more about Native American cultures.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Concentrated majors never really know who around them might also be involved in their major. The workload is not bad but sometimes could even afford to be elevated a little to secure understanding and maybe push some of those students who are never trying.

4 College Freshman

Academics: If you take advantage of the brilliant professors, it might be easy to turn a blind eye to the not-so-brilliant students you might find yourself around. It has been easy and even enjoyable to learn here and participate in classes. The professors here are underrated and deserve more credit for their work.

Campus Quality: This campus is nothing special and doesn't boast anything quite extraordinary other than the spectacular views. It's also annoying that it is so secluded from town—a trip to the grocery store or to pick up dinner shouldn't take as long and I sure wish I could walk instead of having to drive everywhere (which, by the way, is so helpful. Bring your car!)

Local Area: I can see the appeal of Durango for some people, but for me it is way too secluded from any resources and does not offer ways to be involed within the community or anything to do outside of driving 45 minutes for skiing in the winter and hiking the trails in warmer weather. If you're looking for diversity, Durango is NOT the place for you—there are very specific "brands" and stereotypes of people, and by brand I mean the infamous "Durangotang:" your typical wanna-be earth-loving good-vibey stoner-hippie hybrid.

College Freshman

Guys & Girls: I have no experience that I feel allows me to contribute a sufficient answer here.

2 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I never feel safe on this campus. Many people I know have been sexually harrassed while walking alone at night or simply travelling from one dorm to another. This environment causes anxiety.

2 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have not at all enjoyed my experience at Fort Lewis College. I have done everything in my power to make this experience better for myself, but overall feel I have wasted a year and $10,000+ in this experience. I wish there was more spirit, vigor, and excitement about receiving an education. I am so sick of feeling like a complete outcast—no person should feel that in college because it should be a diverse and inclusive community, but this community is anything but. I can understand that people may be drawn here for small town life and for the beautiful San Juan mountain environment, but the people here ruin that all.

Overall Experience: Professors at this school are helpful and understanding of situations. Small class sizes are reassuring when you do not understand something. The dedicated staff want you to succeed in your learning & understanding over your grade, and that has been largely appreciated.

2 College Freshman

Overall Experience: No one has heard of this school, and I can't imagine that employers would be impressed with a degree from here as pretty much anyone can get in and succeeding is not difficult or very rewarding here. The job fairs are all local, which I guess is great if you're into that.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: There is no school spirit at this school! It's very disappointing. Student athletes care (a little too much) about the "prestige" in being a student athlete, but the rest of us couldn't care less.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I have not lived off campus and do not have any helpful information for this topic.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Durango is full of awesome and delicious restaurants! I have spent a huuuuge amount of money eating off campus because I never run out of options and always enjoy the food. I wish they offered student discounts, though, as I have not received one this entire year.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Even though I am a supporter of a lenient environment, I wish administration would step in to mediate problems that affect students who are not involved. The biggest example I can think of is noise. I live in Cooper Hall, and there are constantly people in the hallway right outside of my door, during all hours of the night, and they are never reprimanded. There are fights and brawls in the parking lot outside my dorm every night. It is loud and these people often are extremely drunk or high and that affects myself and many people around me.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The Financial Aid office is pretty efficient and they want to help students be able to attend the school. They have been helpful and quick in aiding me and people I know

Campus Food: The food provided on campus leaves me sick every time I eat it. The hours are not flexible and that is hard for students who live on campus and have jobs that prohibit them from eating in the cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. There are so few options and the food, no matter what it is, all tastes the same. Even the coffee is bad!

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms here are just like any other dorms, for the most part. There aren't amenities like ice or trash rooms or anything like that. The RA's and RD's, in my experience, have been terrible and unhelpful, and they do not make the community welcoming or reach out to their residents. They also are not good at their jobs and I find myself awake at 3 am on Wednesdays because the people in my hall are loud, disrespectful, and inconsiderate, and the RA's never enforce rules.

Majors: I love the Sociology/Criminology major program at Fort Lewis College. The environment, teachers, and students are great, and I really get a lot from the classes that I can apply to everyday life.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I feel very safe attending Fort Lewis College.

Athletics: The athletics at my school are okay. There are some sports that are much better than others such as soccer or lacrosse compared to football and basketball.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: It offers amazing opportunities to everyone.

Administration: This is really a place for people that can be around drugs and alcohol responsibly because there will be no adults in your dorm to stop you from making a mistake
