New arrivals to Florida State may be fooled into thinking that Tallahassee is a sleepy, Southern town, but the truth of the matter is that the nightlife here is alive and well. On any given night, you can have your choice of live music, dancing, and drink specials. The Greeks on campus have a reputation of throwing some of the best bashes, and the off-campus parties often wind up being large and loud. Most students will hang out on the Tennessee Street Strip, but bars and clubs surround the campus. Remember that this is a two-college town, so there are going to be some crazy parties to attend almost every weekend, whether they are FSU parties or not, and whether they on campus or off.

However, all this partying does bring some unwanted attention. The local police department recently established a "Party Patrol" that responds to complaints about off-campus parties and underage drinking, and the FSU police are fairly strict, as well. Because the students at FSU are so friendly and outgoing, you won't have to worry about being bored. There's always a good time to be found around every corner, just use common sense to stay safe and to not get caught.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

This is arguably one of the best places in town to catch live music from both local and national bands. Live music is offered throughout the week, giving you the chance to hear everything from reggae to hardcore punk. The Beta Bar also has pinball, pool, and foosball.

Cuban restaurant by day and student hangout by night, Gordo's is one of the cheaper places in Tallahassee to get a drink. Friday is Latin night, and Thursdays feature cheap pitchers all day long.

1907 W. Pensacola St.

(850) 576-5767

The Grove

The Grove is small, but it's still very popular. The dress code is fairly strict-it's more of a Miami kind of lounge than Tallahassee's other nightspots.

111 W. College Ave.

(850) 577-0700

Late Night Library

One of Tallahassee's more unique spots, the Library is divided into three rooms-two of which are outside-and concentrates much more on music and dancing than most other local bars.

The Moon

Wednesdays are college nights at the Moon, a bar and music venue which adopts a completely different vibe for each night of the week.

As the name implies, Po'Boys specializes in Creole food and exhibits a lively Baton Rouge atmosphere. Great jambalaya, authentic gumbo, and a free-beer-for-ladies Tuesday make this place a popular hangout for FSU students.
