4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a lot of nicer/healthier options

4 College Freshman

Transportation: On-campus busses are great and convenient but off-campus travel is difficult without a car

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greeks contribute a lot to the school

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Public school, not many scholarships offered

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Pretty diverse school and people are accepting

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I would recommend freshmen to live on campus their first year

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life has a very strong presence at FSU, but they seem to be quite selective and at times shallow.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: It is important that students have their own computer or access to a computer outside of school because at times it is difficult to find a computer in the labs or library. The wireless on campus is very reliable and there are two different networks, which ensures that you will always be able to get a connection. Also, the libraries have printers, but I would also recommend buying your own printer because printing costs can get to be expensive over time.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Like anywhere else, on campus you have to be aware of your surroundings. FSUPD is always available and are frequently seen patrolling campus. There are a number of robberies that take place on campus, which is why if traveling alone at night it is important to consider taking the safe bus or night nole home.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are hundreds of dining options in Tallahassee for a variety of different tastes. Most places are moderately priced, and have coupons for students. It seems though, that if you are interested in healthy or vegetarian/vegan food, there aren't many options.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: It seems that students are welcomed in Tallahassee, due to the fact that there are many options for entertainment geared toward students. Also, there is sufficient shopping and cultural events that take place.

Off-Campus Housing: There is a large variety of different housing options off-campus near Florida State. The apartments closest to campus vary in quality, but seem to be a little more expensive. The bus system, however, is very efficient and reliable, so even if you don't have a car, living further from campus is still an option.

Academics: The school has some top-notch programs such as a great film school, a leading real estate program, and a top-notch risk management and insurance program as well. Most students don't take advantage of these opportunities but increased academic funding from the past three years does increase the school's academic potential.

3 College Senior

Administration: Strictness is rather selective. Violations with felony potential (like drugs and alcohol) are taken very seriously but noise and visitation are usually looked the other way. Its also pretty hard to set protests/demonstrations (haven't seen one since I started college).

2 College Senior

Party Scene: The opening of Madison social makes Tallahassee even more of a nightlife venue than it should be.

4 College Senior

Majors: Home to a world-renowned Shakespeare scholar, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, and many famous poets -- the English department is a hidden gem in the institution. With a high focus on a smaller classroom-setting and a big focus on one-on-one instruction, it's a great opportunity to strengthen one's writing skills and develop a nice portfolio.

4 College Senior

Majors: My personal internship was fine--it wasn't paid but I did a lot of work where I felt like the internship was worth it. Something to think about is that internship opportunities are buried as emails. A lot of internship opportunities are off-campus. While that might be good it can shift focus from the school to the internship.

3 College Senior

Weather: While snow is extremely rarely an issue, a lot of rain and sunshine mixes up the campus's weather experience. The campus is very lucky to not worry as much about inclement weather (like snowstorms) but this does force students to pay attention to the weather more (after all we do have a meteorology department)

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Variety seems to be an issue here. You have to go far off-campus to get the most diverse food selections--and often the greatest restaurants are farther away as well. But at the very least the restaurants off-campus aren't half-bad. Some are good and some you have to stay away.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Campus housing is pretty good given the money you're paying for. Lightning-fast internet, prompt maintenance, and a thriving residence-life community really show how powerful campus housing is. The decline of community-style halls will negatively impact campus housing's potential in the future however. But for now, it's swanky.

2 College Senior

Local Area: It's poor that Tallahassee, Florida's capitol, is not a prime example of an idea city (let alone a college town). A limited public transportation system, unbalanced urban planning (anything outside FSU's circle is bare until you get to the Chiles High School area), and a limited demand of advancement make this city more sleep than it should be.

2 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: The institution does run its own off-campus marketplace... of sorts. However most off-housing facilities are run by one housing company. As more luxury apartments open up closer to campus, living farther away from campus is becoming more appealing by the minute.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: Reaching Financial Aid by phone is an absolute no-no. And it's a pain that the office is located deep inside the stadium. While the financial aid officers seem mechanic they are at least helpful.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Campus police has been diligent in keeping itself up-to-date, such as new squad cars (the Chevy Caprice PPVs slowly replacing the SUVs) and new technologies such as the FSU Guardian. On the health side, the institution has taken great strides to make campus pro-health with a new and massive wellness centre plus a recently-ratified non-smoking policy.

3 College Senior

Diversity: The rate of diversity is not anything special in this institution. Except for an racially-insensitive incident that made campus news back in September 2013 the institution has not become the groundbreaking example for diversity nor a harbinger of homogeneity.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
