Parking: The parking situation at FSU has caused many problems over the years, but in my time at FSU, there has been improvements with new parking garages and lots, more overnight parking, and a paid valet service added. My major issue with parking is that many days out of the week, there will be events hosted at FSU, and oftentimes these events will have nothing to do with us as a school but are simply using our facilities to hold meetings and events, and will block off entire floors of the parking garage with no advance warning. They only ever do this with student lots, not teacher parking spaces, and it an really cause students to be late, or in some cases miss class entirely.

Administration: In my experience with the FSUPD, they really are more concerned with getting inebriated students home safely rather than getting them into trouble. Parking is kind of an issue, and sometimes the parking enforcement will hide and watch particular spots to get students tickets, rather then simply asking that they not park there. RAs are also not overly strict, though they will make sure that their residents adhere to the dorm policies.

Weather: Though we are in Florida, autumn and winter can be chilly. It even snowed (a tiny bit!) this year, causing classes to be cancelled for a day! Rainy season is also pretty crazy and unpredictable, but you learn pretty quickly to carry an umbrella and invest in rainboots. The majority of the year, however, Tallahassee has beautiful, sunny, warm weather, and plenty of places to go and enjoy it.

Party Scene: If that's something you're interested in, don't worry, because there are a lot of options. Tons of bars and clubs and even some that are 18+.

Scholarships: Brand new system just went up that the Financial Aid Office does not know how to use, so you'll have to be patient when receiving your aid. It could take awhile, but it's pretty hit and miss. For some people it goes smoothly, and for others they have to wait weeks.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is the worst. Avoid it if you can. Most expensive housing option and good luck finding a place to keep your car on campus.

Greek Life: Greek life is huge on campus. Join it if you want, or don't. It doesn't make a difference to anyone else.

Diversity: Acceptance is not really an issue, however campus is not very racially diverse at 80% white.

4 College Senior

Administration: Campus is not very strict. Good rule of thumb: don't do anything stupid.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is readily available due to the fact that most FSU students must live off-campus. It is certainly cheaper than on-campus housing, but you are going to need a car. Be prepared to fight for parking.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Popular major but comes with a lot of research opportunities

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Not a lot of talk about drugs but a lot of alcohol

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Small town, not a lot to do for younger people the farther you get from campus

3 College Freshman

Technology: I have my own computer and do not know much about computer labs on campus

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a lot of nicer/healthier options

4 College Freshman

Transportation: On-campus busses are great and convenient but off-campus travel is difficult without a car

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greeks contribute a lot to the school

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Public school, not many scholarships offered

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Pretty diverse school and people are accepting

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I would recommend freshmen to live on campus their first year

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life has a very strong presence at FSU, but they seem to be quite selective and at times shallow.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: It is important that students have their own computer or access to a computer outside of school because at times it is difficult to find a computer in the labs or library. The wireless on campus is very reliable and there are two different networks, which ensures that you will always be able to get a connection. Also, the libraries have printers, but I would also recommend buying your own printer because printing costs can get to be expensive over time.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Like anywhere else, on campus you have to be aware of your surroundings. FSUPD is always available and are frequently seen patrolling campus. There are a number of robberies that take place on campus, which is why if traveling alone at night it is important to consider taking the safe bus or night nole home.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are hundreds of dining options in Tallahassee for a variety of different tastes. Most places are moderately priced, and have coupons for students. It seems though, that if you are interested in healthy or vegetarian/vegan food, there aren't many options.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: It seems that students are welcomed in Tallahassee, due to the fact that there are many options for entertainment geared toward students. Also, there is sufficient shopping and cultural events that take place.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
