Scholarships: Most of my financial aid struggle came from either time delays with gathering paperwork or financial problems that concerned the government and were out of the school's hands. As far as school financial aid goes, absolutely turn in your FAFSA documentation as early as possible. I've turned it in significantly later this year and noticed a drop in my aid, although my financial situation had not changed. Turn in other necessary forms earlier than the week before all of the financial aid is dropped by the Financial Aid office to avoid further headaches.

Campus Food: While the restaurants on campus are fairly good (you know what to expect from chains like Starbucks and Chili's), the dining halls leave much to be desired. I invested in the "VIP plan" which allows the student to use one meal swipe per day at several (but not all) dining locations beyond the dining halls, up to a value of $6. While the dorm-required meal plans are overpriced, this is a great option if you're willing to spend roughly $100 per semester overall. It breaks up the monotony of the dining halls. Healthy options for vegetarians like myself are greatly limited no matter what restaurant/dining hall you go to. The "Freshman 15" can be a very real thing if you don't watch what you eat carefully.

Campus Housing: Being placed in a suite-style dorm in the Honors student building of FSU gave me wonderful access to campus with relatively clean rooms and minimal sound distractions for studying. After staying the night in a friend's dorm in one of the less updated buildings, I experienced a totally different style of living. This community-style dorm had a mold problem and had to have the thermostat set to approximately 67 degrees to avoid water pooling on the floor. The bathrooms on the hall were not maintained well and the building always had a musky smell. The housing was truly hit-or-miss and I was lucky, but many students paying thousands of dollars to this school were not. By all means, the suite-style dorms are much more desirable over the community-style. The suites are a little bit more expensive but seeing as how that's your living space for 32 weeks, it's worth the investment.

Scholarships: easy, but make it shorter and easier to understand

Campus Food: i like how you have a lot of popular franchise restaurants to pic from. there is a wide varaity of food

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is so much better than on-campus housing and the school will frequently host events at the union where many of the off-campus housing attend and get to talk to the students who are looking for somewhere to live

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I personally like living on campus because its easy to walk to class, you dont have to worry about parking, and everything you could possibly need is on campus/

5 College Senior

Party Scene: I don't go out as much as I used to but I hear really good things about college town. The strip is also fun on Wednesdays during the summer.

3 College Senior

Administration: People use drugs and alcohol here just like people do everywhere else. The real problem is parking. There is never enough parking and every semester it seems like they take away more parking spots from students and give them to employees

2 College Senior

Scholarships: Make sure to take care of any financial problems early because if you wait until the semester starts you'll be waiting in huge lines in the financial aid office and become very frustrated with the whole process

3 College Senior

Campus Food: I wasn't a fan of the on-campus food until we got a chick fil a

Campus Housing: Living on campus is an interesting experience because you learn a lot about yourself when you finally leave home. Also, you have to learn to live with others that you may not always like or who may be completely different than you. The rooms aren't very big for two people so they can be pretty cramped. There are fun games and activities that you can participate in. Many dorms have game rooms that come with pool tables, ping pong, tables, and plenty of other cool things. It is a very social atmosphere because everyone is around the same age and is looking to make friends because they're all away from home. The dorms are also very close to classes so getting to class shouldn't be a problem. The housing process can be a bit overwhelming though.

Campus Food: The food quality is alright in the dining halls but spend the extra money and get the VIP dining plan.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee.
