5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I had no problems receiving financial aid, all I had to do was fill out the FAFSA application on time and I received what I needed!

Campus Housing: There are pros and cons to living on campus. Pros: Everything is central to you and is only walking distance. I feel like you make better friends when living on campus than off campus as well. It's easier to be involved if you live on campus.

Cons: Living on campus is a bit pricy, and the dorms (or at least the one I'm in) isn't too spacious.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The professors in my school, or at least the ones who have taught me, are absolutely amazing. They are passionate about the subject matter they teach, and are always easy to contact.

Local Area: I love the college town feel of Tallahassee. It's also a very pretty city in terms of nature. There are various parks one can go to. Downtown is also cool because of all the government buildings present because Tallahassee is the state capital.

Health & Safety: A service offered by my school that I think is particularly helpful in maintaining safety is the SAFE Bus program. On all nights from 10pm-3am, buses pick you up after calling in with your location and what you're wearing. It's fast and safe!

Campus Housing: No residence hall is going to be totally awesome. Living in the all girls dorm Jennie Murphree, I imagine our building is cleaner than most. I live in a suite triple with a private (not shared) bathroom and two mini refrigerators. My room is very large compared to other dorm rooms so I guess I am a "lucky" one. However, a meal plan was required for this building.

Local Area: Coming from South Florida, I love the beautiful scenery and the hills. Also, it gets much colder here than South Florida. Try visiting the local parks for biking, fishing, and hiking. You can take an elevator to the top of the capital building to overlook Tallahassee. Governor Square Mall is to go-to shopping mall in the area and has the typical mall department stores and other small stores.

Health & Safety: The campus and local police department reacted instantly to the shooting at the library very fast. Regardless of this awful incident, I feel very safe and if something else were to happen I know that campus police will act quickly and efficiently.

Scholarships: A few of the financial aid staff did not thoroughly explain what I needed to know and were also clueless about some FAFSA information. They messed up my disbursement a couple times and the line for the Financial Aid office is always long.

Party Scene: Florida State is known for the party life. There are parties off campus all the time!

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I love the food in Tallahassee! There are so many options and many non-chain restaurants that are delicious!

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Students in Greek life tend to constantly represent their chapter and strictly stay friends with other students only if they are a part of Greek life as well. I do not see non-Greeks and Greeks spend time together off campus too often either. Greek housing is available in the chapter housing mostly for upperclassmen. Those who don't live in the chapter houses either live in their own apartment or dorm on campus.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Parking is very strict here. This allows students with permits to park on campus during the school day without dealing with visitors stealing any spots. FSU also does not tolerate sexual violence.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The school is there to see you succeed. There are tons of study sessions, an average workload, tons of credit opportunities, and every professor has a TA or reasonable office hours so you can seek help if you need it. Sometimes it may seem like a lot of work but so long as you go to class, stay on top of your work, and take notes, you should be just fine.

Greek Life: It's nice to see everyone come rush week, and I may not be involved in Greek life but nobody has ever treated me differently because I'm not involved. They're all friendly and inviting, definitely dedicated to their chapters. Personally, I have a great mix of greek and non-greek friends and we all mesh together just fine!

Athletics: If you're looking for a sports oriented school, nobody is better than Florida State. Come game day, you can hear people cheering from the stadium from anywhere in Tallahassee. Not mention all of our other sports such as soccer, basketball, and volleyball get tons of students support and tons of fans for their on-campus games.

Administration: The Administration is pretty strict where it needs to be, drugs, alcohol, noise and parking, but generally if it's bothering the administration, its been bothering most of the students that have to put up with it. So either way they're making sure that the students are happy and most importantly, safe.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The dining halls really work to make sure they have a variety of meals so students don't have to worry about getting the same meal every other day. It's all delicious and different, but there's always Chili's, Denny's, or Chic Fil A if you want something different!

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
