Greek Life: I personally am a "Greek" myself and a proud sister of the new sorority Alpha Phi at Florida State. Although we do not have a permanent house as of yet, our sorority remains extremely close and active in the Greek community. Every sorority and fraternity has been very welcoming to Alpha Phi. Greek life heavily participates in almost all student based activities as well as with the entire community. Many non-Greeks view Greeks in a negative manner, but usually after hanging out with them change their minds. One doesn't have to be Greek to fit into the school; however, being active in the Greek community makes the college experience much more fun.

Academics: Communications Major – I'm a Communications Major and currently applying for the Communications College at Florida State. I have taken some communication classes. The staff are extremely interested in their work and are always there to help the students. The material learned intrigues me as well as challenges me to move forward in my studies as well as excel. I volunteer at the Florida State radio station, V89, by working with the Public Relations department. I attend different concerts and meet with band members to help promote the station. I'm also a member of FPRA (Florida Public Relations Association). I attend weekly meetings for both facilities as well as participate in seminars when offered.

Scholarships: Easy, Fast, and Efficient – I received the Freshman Scholarship without even having to apply. I keep it as long as I have a decent GPA. Good stuff!

Campus Food: It depends on where you go. From best to worst: Figg Dining Hall, Fresh Foods, Ogelsby Union, and then Suwannee Dining Hall. It's nice to pick what you want in the union food court, though. They just added a Papa John's and the sushi there is amazing!

Local Area: Tallahassee or Better Known Tallasassy – The hippest part of Tallahassee is Railroad Square. All the artists work there and on the first friday of every month, they hold a late night event to showcase their work. Next to the square is All Saints Cafe and the Engine Room, they're both excellent spots for college students to hang or party.

Administration: Not Very Strict at All – I can't recall any type of incident of my friends or myself getting into trouble so far... FSU is a well-known party school, so for the most part students do their thing. Your biggest look-out is really the TPD, they are EVERYWHERE.

Off-Campus Housing: Depends on Where You Live – I live relatively far from campus (by TCC) and it sucks. The buses that run through campus don't run by there, but I love the place itself. Most off campus apartments are very nice though. The houses off of Jackson Bluff and that area are pretty old but close to campus and are definitely what you would see in your typical college movie. Try to stay away from of FAMU side town though, it can get very sketchy.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of Delivery! Almost every place delivers, which is really great. Some places can be a little more pricey than others, but there are plenty of options (not just pizza.) Most places are college student budget friendly, you can find coupons all over the place. I'd say some of the better restaurants are west of campus, on Pensacola St. & W Tennessee

Scholarships: Pain in the Ass – I hate dealing with financial aid. Paying for classes or anything else like new a FSU card or parking tickets is a pain. They charge a $7 online convenience fee. As for paying for school, there are limited scholarships through the school but I've been given a decent loan that more than covers tuition, housing & books.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Pretty Diverse – You'll find all types of people at Florida State. And most of them happen to be pretty good looking. There are plenty of frat packs and sorositutes, but if that isn't your thing.. that's okay, because I've found that most people aren't.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: Computer Labs Are Pretty Convenient – Almost every building has wireless internet and have places to sit with outlets, which is nice inbetween classes if you have your laptop and can't make it to the library. There are also several computer labs around campus, you just have to know where they are (strozier, the union, the science library..)

Weather: Thank God for Fall and Spring – Fall and Spring are the only comfortable times to be at Florida State. During the summer, it is so hot that you will be sweating by the time you get to your class. During the winter, you have to wear 3 coats to prevent from freezing. Both summer and winter make it a hassle to walk to campus. However, during fall and spring the weather is so beautiful that it's a pleasure to walk to class.

Greek Life: I'm Not Greek, but It's Big – Although I'm not involved with Greek life, I know it is a huge part of FSU. All of the houses near campus are very extravagant and spacious, the fraternities and sororities are advertise all over campus, and they are deeply involved in Florida State.

Campus Housing: Dorms Are Nice, Food Could Be Better – No one expects to be living in the Ritz for their freshmen year, but I was quite satisfied with the dorms at FSU. The worst part was the cafeterias. Since there were only two cafeterias, they were always crowded and very loud. Not to mention that the food was low quality and repetitive.

Campus Quality: Lifetime Changing – On thing that has been good for my future was joining the co-ed fraternity. I was able to travel to different cities and tour corporations. This connection will help me later in life when i am applying for a job. It has been a huge networking system

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Best Experience Ever – I love being at this school but if you aren't careful the social life can take over. I was lucky and joined a student organization called Alpha Kappa Psi, which has opened my horizons to new business opportunities. I have also met my best friends in this organizations. In the end this was my top choice i do not regret it!

Athletics: This semester has proven how well our team can perform. We have beaten our two biggest competitors and won the title of state champions. This has not been done since 2005. It has been quite an accomplishment. We also had the chance to play in the ACC Championship game. You can tell the fan devotion with the crowds at the game and the dedicated fans that traveled to Charlotte for the championship game.

3 College Senior

Transportation: Busses Are All Right – The campus has a bus system that works fairly well, however, the busses are almost always either 5 minutes early or 10 minutes late. This causes students to miss a bus that they may have been "on time" for or end up 5-10 minutes late for a class because of the unreliable transportation available to them.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Very Diverse – There are many different races and ethnicities on the FSU campus. Blacks, Whites, Asains, Indians, etc. I've never had a problem with fellow students involving race. People are equally treated and respect one another for the most part.

3 College Senior

Campus Quality: There are a lot of new buildings popping up all over campus, but there are still a lot of old, dilapidated buildings that are in dire need of renovations. There is also way too much construction on campus right now, making it difficult for students to get to certain parts of the campus.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Somewhat Safe – Personally I always feel safe while walking through out campus, but there are incidents where people are involved in crimes such as robbery, etc. If your responsible for your actions then you will always be safe. There are also many security phones you can use if needed in an emergency situation

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drug/Alcohol Visibility – Drinking is pretty much at every party you're invited to. I have not experienced peer pressure, and I've only seen/smelled drug usage nearby once or twice.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: I don't party too much, but the few times I have, the town is small and college-oriented. Therefore, apartments complexes and parties are always local and easy to get to. Clubs are popular and for the most part clean and inexpensive. Transportation is everywhere and safe.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Both dining halls are always filled with a variety of food to choose from whether you are a meat lover, vegetarian, or health-addict. The facilities are well-sized and always clean; there are always employees available for your service. The other food places are located conveniently around campus near ATM's and serve high-quality food as if you were buying off campus. I would recommend a meal plan to anyone attending FSU.

4 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking on campus can be a bit difficult if you are not acquainted with the campus. There are many lots where students can park, but they are not necessarily on campus (across the street). Permits are part of the tuition.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life. Choosing which college to attend is not an easy decision, but if you’re looking for the perfect combination of a good education and a good time, you can’t do much better than Florida State University.
