Scholarships: Lots of Scholarship Opportunity – I received a good amount of financial aid with little work being put in.

Off-Campus Housing: Great Options – There are tons of apartment complexes right on the border of campus. Very reasonable rent prices for surprisingly nice apartments.

Campus Food: More Healthy Options Please! There aren't a ton of healthy options in the student union, but there are a few Starbucks on campus which is great.

Campus Quality: Florida States facilites are very nice and accessible to students. The gym offerers great workout classes, the main library is great as well.

Parking: Parking on campus can be very hectic. If you have odd class times then you will probably easily find parking, but if it is during the busy times it can be very frustrating and you have to park off campus on side streets and walk to campus.

Overall Experience: My overall experience at FSU has been amazing. I have a bright lively room with all the amenities I need. My classes are all within a 5 to 10 minute walk from my room. I can walk literally anywhere I need to go. The campus is absolutely beautiful with trees, fountains, and numerous statues. Football games are intense and so much fun. The faculty is really focused on the student and I really feel like the university wants me to graduate and do it on my own time, which in my case is as soon as possible.

Guys & Girls: There's Alot of Girls and Not Alot of Guys – Our campus is pretty much dominated with Greek Life. The guy to girl ratio is 40:60. What guys are here are generally either homosexual, involved with fraternities, or super dedicated to their majors, usually either science or music. The girls are also usually involved in a sorority or fraternity of some type. It is a very feminine campus with lots of flowery dresses during spring time and chic outfits during the winter.

Academics: The Advisors Are Excellent – I'm attending school at the Florida State University and so far my education has been successful. I am an Education major and the advisors are very personal, informative and proactive in my academic plan. My own advisor is helping me to explore all the education options possible before I apply to the specific college within the university. I've had some complications with my classes and my advisor has been willing to really reach out and bend over backwards to make sure I make it into the programs I want, which are extremely competitive. I've visited my advisor office twice in the past two months and he remembers me and my specific situation personally and shows a genuine interest in working with me to ensure I have the best educational experience possible. All the advisors are very informative and willing to take time out to help any student, whether it be sending an email on a student's behalf to an administrator, mapping out a detailed academic plan without pressuring students to take certain classes, or just answering any questions or relieving any anxieties any student may have.

Campus Quality: I fell in love with Florida State athletics. There are so many traditions, and football season is a huge part of the Seminole lifestyle.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Be Aware – There are occasional alerts sent out to students about armed robberies on or near campus. During the day, I feel totally safe anywhere on campus, but at night, just stay with a group and know who and what is around you.

3 College Senior

Local Area: College Town – Tallahassee has a lot more to offer than most college students think, but you have to leave the general vicinity of campus. There are many beautiful parks and outdoor activities. The area around campus is not as nice as other parts of town, but there are plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs beloved by students.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Great Difference Between Good and Bad Dorms – There is a great difference between the "good" dorms and the "bad" dorms. Living on the one side of campus ("good" dorms)has a lot more accessibility to food and activities. These dorms are also more expensive.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: Not a Problem – A good rule of thumb to follow is: If you feel like you're doing something that could get you in trouble- stop doing it. If you follow this advice, you will be safe in most cases.
As far as academics go, if you're here, is should be because you want to work hard and succeed. The professors are here to teach you, and they have your best interests in mind. With that said, if you are struggling in a class, seek help in your professor's office hours, or find help from one of the free tutoring services on campus. A good work ethic will almost always get you back on track.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Greeks Misunderstood by Non-Greeks – Greeks are very stereotyped at Florida State. I know many Greeks who are perfectly nice and down to earth people, but group of Greeks have created stereotypes for the different sororities and fraternities on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Technology: As long as it isn't during midterms or finals, you can almost always find a place to study in the libraries. There is also wifi throughout the campus, so some outdoor area are always available to study at.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of Options Near Campus – Right on the outskirts of campus there are many options to eat. There is fast food, sit down, and carry out options and all of them within walking distance from each other and the dorms.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The financial aid process can be tricky. Fill out your FAFSA ASAP! The university will go through it and offer you scholarships based on your FAFSA and high school achievements. There aren't many scholarships for people until they are Formally Admitted to their College. (i.e. The College Of Humans Science or the College of Arts and Sciences) Until that point it is really important that you apply for scholarships through websites like

Party Scene: Clubs Are Pretty Good – The clubs and Night life around FSU vary. There are a lot of Fraternity Parties, tons of clubs, and tons of house parties. You can always find somewhere to party and there are many options for underage nightlife as well, even the on-campus bowling alley. The strip(which has several clubs) is right across the street from the edge of the east side of campus. There are tons of dining options close and even some "classier clubs" which the FREE Night Nole take you to. Some clubs are a little run-down and some are better than others.

Drug Safety: We Have Both! RA's aren't quick to rat out their residents to the police, it's easy to get a drink as an underage at the local clubs, and drinking in the dorm rooms is a very common occurrence. Hookah is wildly popular, and illegal drugs are somewhat prevalent. Peer pressure isn't very high, however, and if one identifies his or herself as a non-drinker or non-smoker, he or she will not meet much opposition.

3 College Junior

Diversity: FSU is mainly white students, but FAMU, an almost entirely African-American student population, is a short drive away. Of course, there are honors societies for different ethnicities, but the population is definitely primarily white.

Local Area: What's up in Tallaclassy? The clubs are fun but small and dirty; yes, it's the state capital, but honestly it's a pretty small city. Still, Tallahassee has a few nooks and crannies all her own. Railroad avenue boasts an eclectic group of small restaurants and shops, including Railroad Square, which I lovingly call Hipster Paradise. Lake Ella features a beautiful lake view and another group of quaint shops. So don't come to Tallahassee if you're looking for a thriving metropolis or the safest city around; however, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere.

Transportation: It's Decent – Transportation at FSU is all right. They have a seemingly well planned bus system - they have or seven routes, each with 2 buses following the route from 7am-7pm. One of them loops campus and the other buses take students to off campus locations. The buses are free and only for students/faculty. However, they aren't totally reliable. The on campus one is supposed to be at its stops every 10 minutes and the off campus ones every fifteen minutes, but they are always late, and for something that could be the only way that some students can even get to class at all, it just seems like it should be reliable. A great thing though is called the night nole which is a bus system that runs at night from 10 pm - 3 am, and takes students from apartment locations to the strip to places around tallahassee to prevent drunk driving. the night nole is also free.

Also, students can ride for free on any city bus as long as they have their student id card.

Off-Campus Dining: TONS of Restaurants Around Town – There are a ton of restaurants immediately off campus, especially on Tennessee and Pensacola, which are the two roads that go right next to campus on either side. Within walking distance of the school is Chipotle, Ruby Tuesday's, Whattaburger, Jimmy John's, Panda Express, Subway, Sumo Sabi, and a bunch of other places. If you go to Appalachee - about a ten minute drive when there's no traffic, there's a Chili's, Logan's, Outback, Genghis Grill, Olive Garden, etc. And there is a TON of frozen yogurt places around.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Hot When Its Hot – Because it's Florida, and Tallahassee is inland, it gets really hot in the summer. But in the fall, there is nice weather and people lay outside a lot. In the winter and spring it rains a lot. I had to buy rainboots just so I could walk outside. The coldest it gets is highs of 40's.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Fine for the First Semester – While I had a meal plan last semester, I went to the dining hall about 4-5 times a week. There are only two dining halls on campus. They offer good food, but after a while, it all seems the same. I also didn't feel like it was that healthy...probably because it was buffet style and I would eat about 3 plates of food. Other than dining halls, There are only 4 other places to eat on campus. They're all clustered in the union.
