Party Scene: The Day Time Campus Shuttle Turns Into Nightime Club Bus – For me it will be a B because you have to be creative in doing something you like other than the club and bar scene such as catching a movie at the Student Life Centre or the theatres or planning a sleep over with friends. If you like the club scence you have the Night Nole to take you home if yourtoo drunk too drive depending on where you live.

Majors: I Always Get a Compassionate Look When I Tell People My Major – Individual: "What is your major"
Me: "Biology"
Individual: :\ O wow

More than 50% ofte people who start out in this major end up switching. It takes a lot of pople more than four years to finish and it destroys your GPA. The smart ones switch to another major, the extra strong ones stay an make it through and the not so fortunate ones make it some way or another. If you are into marine biologyand animal biology and research theyou may be the kind to like it. I feel that if you are more inclined on medicine do something else and then take courses such as Genetics, Molecular Biology etc to get a minor otherwise you will be takin Plant Biology,Evolution, Vertebrae Physiology (which is more like a rush through of Anatomy and Physiology). There are a lot of uninteresting, brutal courses you would have to take if you are good at memorizing you would be considered one of the extra strong ones.

Campus Quality: The Scenery – Everyone loves the landscaping that FSU have even got transfers from UF because of that. Also it is not so huge to where you end up getting lost

Local Area: A Ghost Town When College Students Are Gone – If it had not been for the thousands of college students entering each semester Tallahassee would have been a ghost town. Many businesses such as restuarants, shops, apartments, home owners and clubs would not be able to make any money from the students trying to survive in this place as they get their degrees. I feel that the apartment complexes treat us the worst as they expect us to pay thousands of dollars for old, broken down apartments and high utilities and not very good business and honesty. If it was not for Florida State trying to keep events and even the organizations on campus holding parties I beleive a lot of students would die here. Also the clubs and bars are what keeps things booming here for some people but for more low key and conservative people you would have to be more creative such as going to the Rez for outdoor activities and sports activities such as basketball, volley ball, jogging picnics in the numerous parks Tallahassee have available. There are different places to shop as well such as the famous GW Fashions (Goodwill) to local boutiques in different areas in Tallahassee. There has also been an increase in student business here in Tallahassee as well. So there are good, bad and sometimes ugly here in Tallahassee but as they say the strong would survive.

Party Scene: You'll Get Over It – The nightlife is pretty okay and there's plenty of 18-and-older clubs but after a while you get bored of it. The Strip which is a whole line of clubs on a street, is literally like a block away from campus although lots of people get bored from it and look for elsewhere to go. After your first year though you realize that house and frat parties are most definitely better.

Off-Campus Housing: There are so many options for off campus housing. Some are of course really expensive but it is far less expensive to live off campus than on campus. There are bus systems that drop off and pick up near apartments so it is not a necessity to have a car though it is way more convenient.

Administration: Security on campus for the most part is average. FSUPD are more like rent a cops and aren't very reassuring. Underage drinking is really strict especially at football games.

Campus Quality: Florida State has top notch athletic facilities including the Leach Center and Tully gym. They are clean with state of the art equipment allowing students and faculty to use.

Party Scene: Clubs and People – the people and the clubs are great! have to be 21.

Greek Life: Better Than Nothing – The greek life is a great way to get involved and make friends as opposed to entering college knowing nobody. Highly recommended for students who don't know anyone or don't plan to be a part of any clubs or organizations.

Off-Campus Dining: Great Options – There are a long a different options along the strip.

Campus Quality: The gym is open until midnight, the library is open 24/7, and the school has such a home-y feel that you never feel out of place or uncomfortable! There's always an event and many great clubs to join you will never be bored!

Local Area: College Town – Other than FAMU & TCC, Florida State really makes Tallahassee what it is! Get to know other students, you'll be keeping each other company for a long time!

Party Scene: Always something to do! Just don't get carried away!

Drug Safety: Not Many Drugs, Mostly Alcohol – Drugs are around, and you can find them if you want, but they're not a big deal. Some people smoke pot, but mostly people just drink way too much.

3 Recent Alumnus

Academics: It's What You Make of It – Okay, so FSU isn't renowned for its academics, but the education you get here can be Ivy League-caliber if you want it to. I was pre-med, and majored in biochemistry, and I was consistently challenged. Participating in the Honors Program was a big component of this - it gave me the opportunity to do research and write a senior thesis, as well as access to special classes and priority registration. On the other hand, I have friends who picked less challenging (ahem, communications) majors, who did very little work, partied a lot, got good grades but don't have much to show for it. It's students like this who give FSU its reputation.

The professors were, for the most part, very friendly and available to help. A lot of big undergrad classes were taught by TA's, but honors classes were always small and taught by highly ranked professors.

Campus Food: When I was there (2002-2007) the food was pretty bad - bland, repetitive and mediocre. I wasn't expecting gourmet food from a college cafeteria, but for those prices it should have been a little better. I'm vegetarian, and I often left the dining hall hungry because the one veggie option was invariably something weird that they just threw together with whatever non-meat ingredients they happened to have on hand. I know they've added dining halls since then, so maybe the situation has improved.

Local Area: An Okay Place to Be – Tallahassee is a mixed bag for students. The farther from campus you go, the nicer it is. The area right around FSU is really bad, and there's lots of crime, but there are some nice, safe neighborhoods around the city.

There are a lot of things to do around Tallahassee - great parks, lots of outdoor activities, museums, cultural events and some decent restaurants. There's one good mall and one crappy mall, and pretty much all of the stores you'd expect to find in a city that size. Closer to campus it's mostly just bars and stuff related to football, if that's what you're into.

The people in Tallahassee are fine with the students. A ton of people who live there are FSU alumni themselves, so they like to hear what's going on campus and reminisce. Basically just don't be a stereotypical (loud, obnoxious, drunk) college student and you'll be fine.

Drug Safety: If people want to drink, they are going to drink. Many people drink underage and not underage. It is a habit in many peoples lives on any day of the week. If you don't want to drink though, there are ways around and peer pressure is not in my life at all.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The libraries are really great. They have everything that is needed. They get busy sometimes but for the most part they are excellent.

Weather: The weather in Northwest Florida is completely bipolar. My hometown is actually only an hour away, so I know from experience. It's because we are in Florida, but not south enough to have completely warm weather, and we are close enough to Georgia and Alabama to get some of the cooler weather. It can shift from being warm to freezing cold within a week. So, you just have to be ready to dress for any type of weather.

Diversity: All Inclusive – One reason why I decided to attend Florida State University is the diversity. There is such a great mixture of people. Just walking around campus, you will see Black, White, Asian, Hispanic people all around. FSU reflects how America is, a melting pot of people and culture. And no one makes you feel like you are not welcome. Whether you are gay, straight, Christian, Buddhist, Black or White, none of that matters! Plus you can always find a group that you can belong to.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: All Inclusive – Florida State University was never my first choice school. I never thought that I would end up here, but now that I have, I would not want to leave. What makes FSU so incredible is that there is something for everyone! I know that many schools boast about this, but at FSU it's the truth. There are hundreds of student organizations that anyone can find a home in. The facilities are top notch from the gym to our own reservation. There is always something going on at campus. The surrounding community offers something for you to do at any time. I could gush about FSU for hours, but the only way to find out for yourself is to apply and attend the Florida State University!

Parking: There is simply not enough parking. You have to get to campus before 8 a.m. if you want the premium parking spots. Then some of the others you can get there until 10 to find something. There are building a new parking garage, so that will help some, but not enough. Best advice would be to get to campus an hour early if it is later in the morning, because you will be driving around for awhile. I have been pretty lucky, however, as I live in the Southern Scholarship Foundation housing, so I always have parking at my disposal.

Local Area: Something for Everyone – Tallahassee is not the largest city, but there is so much to do here! You just have to know where to look. From the many clubs that students frequent, to the small finds like First Friday, Tallahassee is full of life. Plus, if you really want to become a party of the community there are countless of volunteering opportunities that will really make you appreciate the community that surrounds the school. To add on to the countless of activities around Tallahassee, there is so much to see in the surrounding areas. Tallahassee is only minutes away from beautiful countryside locales such as Wakulla Springs that should not be passed by. All-in-all, Tallahassee has so much more to offer than meets the eye. So don't sell it short!
