Athletics: Division 1 sports at FSU are a HUGE deal. Most students never miss a football game, they attend most of the Basketball games, and most of the Baseball games. Everyone here loves the Seminoles and will stand by them all the way. The Seminoles love their fans, just as much as the fans love them. Division 1 sports aren't the only athletics FSU has to offer. We have the largest IM sports complex in the nation, as well as many sport club programs. There is a sport for everyone!

Academics: Florida State has excellent Academics. Most departments have decent advisors, but not all are extremely helpful. Depending on the subject most professors are great. Some better than others, of course. For the most part my experience within the institution was above par. I came out with a deep knowledge base and a great all around school experience.

Off-Campus Dining: Food Glorious FOOD – Tallahassee provides a little something for everyone in terms of dining. I would not say that everything is up to par with the availability of variety in big cities. But, for the size and scope of the city a person can find anything, at any price and quality. Fast food, organic food, Italian, Japanese, Pizza, Deli, Ethnic. There is a fair share of restaurants to choose from.

Local Area: At first glance Tallahassee does not seem to offer much in the way of cultural events, attractions, and shopping opportunities. The small town feel is something to get used to if you come from living in a city with all resources and social activities available at all times. However, once one opens up to it, the charm is undeniable. There is something for everyone. Decent cuisine, quiant coffee shops, fun bars, a theatre and art scene, parades, open markets, beautiful parks, and it being the state capitol- a fair share of politics. The city is very welcoming to Florida State, FAMU, and TCC students. Especially on days where FSU football is playing a home game. Everyone comes together for an amazing day of tailgating, grilling, and being unified under school spirit. All in all, a fantastic environment for any incoming student.

Administration: The school, along with the city, are very strict on parking. It is nice because I always know when there will be a high concentration of student traffic and when I should get parking. I would suggest that the freshman not drive so there is more parking spots for students that live off campus. The school is understanding but expects respect and consequences are enforced when rules are broken.

Drug Safety: The Drug Scene/Alcohol/Peer Pressure/Police – If you are not involved with drug you wont see it. I live off campus in student living and there are parties every weekend and it is expected to hear drunk people late at night. This happens occasionally on weekdays, but the police are always on it and very attentive and able to quit the drunk students down. Police enforcement is AMAZING here. I really do feel safe, and I like that they send texts when things happen around campus and have those emergency poles all around campus.
Peer pressure is something that I do no experience. I have never been to a campus that if I said I ' cant to drink, or go out because I have to study or I'm tired or for whatever reason, my peers are so understanding. I believe that it is because everyone is going though the same general thing during the school years.

Academics: Being a Social Work Undergrad Student – The Florida State University Social Work major is a great and comfortable community to be involved with. I have never been entangled in such a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Almost every professor has been or is currently a social worker and I'm not sure if that is why they are so understanding and eager to help, but it's incredible. They are all very knowledgeable about all aspect of social work. Everyone in the Social Work department has made me very confident about my major choice and helped me pick out classes perfectly. I was so lost and they really showed me the right path and exposed me to what I needed to do to graduate with my BSW and continue on to FSU Graduate program.

Overall Experience: Best Years of Your Life – You won't find a better experience than the one you'll get at FSU. You're level of involvement is completely your choice, however I recommend going to/joining in as many activities as you can. The Football games to the freinds you make in organizations are all priceless experiences that are top knotch at FSU!!!

Party Scene: On & Off Campus – There's great variety of nightlife both on and off campus depending on what you're looking for. On-campus offers a 'club', late-night dinning, bowling, and a movie theatre. Off-campus has a better nightlife though for both of age and underage a like.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Cost for Comfort – The more amenities you want, and 'nicer' living, the more you're going to pay. But there is a great variety of options. It's just a matter of finding a complex or area that suits you.

3 College Senior

Administration: Certain Rules Take Priority – Honor Code Policy and rules/regulations regarding attendance are highly enforced. Dorms are pretty strick depending on the RA you end up with.

4 College Senior

Drug Safety: Drinking Over Drugs – For the most part, alcohol is more popular at Florida State especially for sporting events.

Transportation: The buses are a great way to get around. Not only do they have the star metro system but FSU has it's own bus system that goes off campus just a few miles. Parking kind of sucks but not if you get to school early. A lot of people ride bikes. I ride a razor scooter

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Pretty Good – Suwannee room is ok but fresh foods is a lot better i'm not sure why but it just is. The food quality is better at fresh. The fig is always too crowded to go. I like that the campus has a lot of variety besides just cafeterias

Health & Safety: But there are still crimes all the time, even during the day

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Off Campus – I'm sure you can find drugs on campus but most of the activity is off campus

Majors: A Painless Transition – The only problem I had was that my GPA wasn't stellar in high school. I transferred from College of Central Florida. All I had to do was take a few classes and do well in those to get in. I think that my essay was a big help, too. My advice: write from the heart.

Parking: At peak hours, it can take over an hour to find parking. Good luck finding a spot from 10am to 4pm. However, the problem isn't the parking lots. If we build more lots, more students will drive to school; thus, the problem will be just as bad.

4 College Freshman

Administration: The Rules Are Fair – Florida State is quite clear about its policies. They are fair. Cheating is not tolerated; neither is drug/alcohol use in dorms. There aren't very many busts but they do not tolerate breaking the few rules.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Suites Styles Wins – The dorms are Florida State University are really nice, but they are significantly better if you are in a suite style dorm. The community style dorms are in much older buildings that haven't been renovated since the 70s, and have rooms that are super cramped. I lived in Reynolds and absolutely loved it.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Club Downunder – I absolutely love going to Club Downunder on campus. It's a real concert venue right on campus that brings touring acts from all across the country. It's great because I get introduced to a bunch of new musicians and artists on any given night of the week. The club itself is really nice, and even has a bar for people 21+. It's my favorite place to be on campus.

3 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Not Much to Know – Everything you need to know on FSU's campus is there when you need it. plenty of opporitunites, and in the know about what is going on, you just have to take the time out and look or in most cases apply.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The Best of the Worst? Though not all of the housing is bad, its hard to get past the older buildings, though they have their charm, its hard to compare them to the newer residence halls. When placed in the same category Florida state is not as stellar in keeping them at the same level.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Tallhasse: More to the Eye – As much as people complain in tallahassee that there isn't much to do, i have to disagree. If one wants to have fun they have to look for it. There are alwasy festivals and activities going around on campus and in the greater Tallahassee area, and even if that doesn't tickle your fancy, Georgia is onlt 30 min away. So theres plenty og opporitunities to have fun. Just look for them.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Not Bad, but Gets Boring – There's two all-you-can-eat dining halls on campus (but they're on opposite sides of campus, so you really only go to one) that your meals plans go to, and then you get FlexBucks that can be used at all of the eating places on campus, which include 5 Starbucks, Chilis, all-night Dennys, and the food court. Rumor is we're getting a Chik-Fil-A too! Most people won't get a meal plan after their first year.
