Campus Quality: Everything is top notch at FSU. Athletics are great - we have a newly remodeled gym, multiple tennis and basketball courts, sand volleyball, soccer and football fields, and two different Intramural sport fields! There are two main libraries on campus (one that is 24/5 with limited hours on weekends)! Anything you need or want to have, you can get it at FSU.

Campus Quality: Although some of the buildings here are old and not as modern as most would like, our Johnston library was just renovated and is a beautiful ultra modern building with huge white hallways and see-through stair cases. The outside looks like the rest of the buildings which is covered in brick but once you go in you are astonished by how renovated and sleek it is. This is one of the several gems that FSU has to offer.

Technology: Fsu offers many different libraries and buildings in which you could use their computers. There computers range anywhere from semi-old Dell desktops to the newest Apple Macbook's that have all the latest softwares including Photoshop, etc.

Weather: At FSU, it's generally sunny unless it starts pouring. Even when there is a flash flood warning, there is still class.

Parking: Parking is awful. Garages are usually full except on the roof. The best place to find a parking spot is by Smith/Kellum/McCollum/Rogers/Salley. DON'T MOVE YOUR CAR ON OR BEFORE GAMEDAY. You will never get your parking spot back.

Diversity: Most students here are Caucasian, but there are a decent amount of other races as well.

Health & Safety: I always have a safe feeling on campus. There are blue lights everywhere in case of danger and the campus police department are always around. The atmosphere and tradition make Florida State feel more like home.

Greek Life: There is a large population of students at FSU who participate in Greek life. During football season their presence is definitely felt. Most of the time they do not affect the lives of non-Greeks other than seeing signs or sidewalk chalk promoting one of their events.

Guys & Girls: The FSU campus is a very diverse one. We have people from every background and culture you can think of. Although we do have a lot of sorority/phrat presence, they do not dominate the school and most of them are not the typical roudy people you might imagine. There is something and someone for every type of person at FSU.

Technology: There are many places on campus to access computers. Multiple libraries with computer labs available. Each computer is equipped with the necessary downloads and the internet speed is usually very good. You can definitely get away without having your own personal computer but it does make life easier to have one. Most locations on campus have WiFi availability.

Weather: The school tends to flood when there is heavy rain. This is to be expected with an outdoor college campus but it is an inconvenience, especially living in Florida where it rains quite consistently. Usually the campus is full of people out on the grassy greens around the school though playing sports or just hanging out. The beautiful scenery is one of the reasons I chose this school!

Campus Housing: Living in Smith Hall for four months, I thought I was going to die. My room was literally the size of a prison cell, with my bed about six feet off the ground...with no ladder!! Every night I went through a complicated gymnastics routine just to get into bed. We shared our bedroom with about fifty other girls with NO sense of personal hygiene; it was common to find bodily fluids, undergarments, and waste products strewn across the bathroom floor on the weekends, and everyone hurried to shower first on Saturday so that they wouldn't have to shower after the showers were disgusting! While I was there, I became very sick and could hardly get out of bed, let alone go to class. Since then, the room I used to live in has been found to have BLACK MOLD, which I was allergic to; something they did not notice on THREE different occasions when they inspected the room! I was so sick and had so many infections when I left that the doctors told me I couldn't leave my parents' house; I've only just been cleared to go back out in public, and it's been two months! Every day I'm glad I transferred out of this school and this dorm hall!

Athletics: Football is the biggest sport at FSU. If you come to FSU then you will have to go to at least one football game at Doak Campbell Stadium. Just the feeling of being with 80,000 other students and alumni in support of FSU truly unifies our school. We have a ton of fan support and even have organizations like Lady Spirit Hunters who make signs, goody bags, and help the football players stay motivated.

Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus from FSU in an apartment complex called Grand Marc. It is fully secure with cameras, magnetic door keys, gates in the parking garages, magnetic keys to enter the building, and it is a two minute walk to campus. One con is that it is a little pricey, however you gain the safety aspect along with all of their amenities.

Off-Campus Dining: Restaurants is what the capitol of Florida is known for- we eat when we are not working at a capitol or full time job or going to class. One of my favorite places to eat is an Italian place called Buca de Beppo which serves family style food so you will always need someone to eat with because the serving size starts at two people. They serve authentic Italian food and it is such a great atmosphere. Tallahassee offers the same sort of experience for all cuisines.

Off-Campus Housing: The housing is very affordable and spacious. The off campus housing experience at Florida State is better than any campus that I've ever experienced. It's friendly and social but also allows for focused study time.

Academics: Overall, student engagement is good and the quality of courses offered varies from department to department. There are many very experiences and good professors and my best advice is to talk to many people before enrolling to gauge their experiences because some professors are better than others.

2 Recent Alumnus

Academics: The introductory courses are often very large and include too many students to allow for meaningful interactions from all professors and students. The core courses of the Biology major are very good and rigorous and are quite good at preparation for a future in biological research.

3 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: It's a large school and you can find almost any type of scene or people that you clique with. In generally, people are friendly and interested in making new connections that last.

3 College Junior

Majors: The elementary ed program is extremely rigorous! I am currently taking 5 classes and each one assumes it is the only class taken. Mounds of reading and journaling about what was read so the instructor knows you actually read the material!

3 College Junior

Majors: As a junior, I am expected to be more independent and assertive about my student observations as an elementary education major. The instructors at FSU do not walk you through finding the teacher or introduce you to them personally. They select a teacher in the county in which you live and introduce you to each other via email. From there it is your responsibility to dress professionally and go get it! It is your career that you are building and FSU expects you to earn it!

3 College Junior

Majors: Lots of hoops for a non-traditional returning student! Not so many for high school students. Just don't forget that infernal foreign language requirement!

4 College Senior

Weather: It is SOOO hot and humid during the summer! So you will most likely be hitting up the pool after class. It gets really cold during the winter and recently we were hit by a strong storm that included hail. But those storms are RARE, this is the first that it has ever occurred in my four years living here. So to wrap it up, Tallahassee actually experiences all four seasons, unlike the rest of Florida.

4 College Senior

Majors: The College of Business provides a great selection of classes and almost all of the professors have amazing experience in their respective field. If I could do it all over again, I would have join the business fraternity my first semester of college.

For the short run, my main career goal is to have a full time job right after graduating, and I am in the process of interviewing for several. In the long run, I would love to work in the marketing department of a corporation or work for an international marketing agency.
