Campus Quality: Clean Cafeteria Food – I wish the cafeteria had more responsible healthy foods. Sometimes I find, that when I eat better I can focus better in class.

Drug Safety: Drugs Are Everywhere – While on campus, drugs and alcohol aren't as noticeable, but you just have to step across the street to the Strip to find the parties. There are a lot of people with fake IDs so they drink illegally. I have been offered many times to smoke marijuana with people but had no interest. People don't really pressure you much though if you say no, which is good. It seems like the "cool" thing to do but a lot of people get caught. If you're caught with drugs and/or alcohol, especially on campus, it goes on your record.

Majors: Love the Program, Hard to Find a Job – I loved my family and child sciences undergrad. The classes interested me, I gained a good amount of knowledge, but the bachelors in itself isn't enough really to get me a job unless I just want to be a preschool teacher, so I had no choice but to go for my Masters, which I am getting in mental health counseling. With my Masters I don't worry so much about getting a job. My undergrad at least helped me in narrowing down what population I want to work with (children and families).

Majors: Mental Health Counseling Masters – In my graduate program, there were close to 90 applicants and no more than 20 were accepted. The most important criteria for admission was GRE scores, letters of recc, and personal statement. There was also a very extensive interview process. I was worried because I didn't have the highest GRE scores and I didn't have much experience in the field, but my letters of recc and personal statement were top notch. My biggest tip would be, especially in any grad program, to work really hard on the personal statement, and work towards making relationships with professors that can give you good recommendations in the future.

Local Area: Fun If You Know Where to Go. Tallahassee is known for being a college town, and for that reason, clubs and bars are plentiful. But you have to know where to go so you aren't around the crazy freshmen that get drunk all the time. I like The Moon, where they have Stetsons every Friday night, which is a chill club with line dancing and "booty breaks" as they call it. There's frequently festivals going on downtown. Maclay Gardens is beautiful, and Wakulla Springs is about a 30 minute drive south. The Governor's Square Mall is great, and the AMC movie theater is top notch. It's very much a college town.

Campus Quality: Wishing I Lived It up While on Campus – FSU's campus offers SO MUCH and yet when I lived on campus my freshman year, I didn't utilize what the campus had to offer as much as I wish I had. There's an on campus free movie theater, a bowling alley, sports on Landis Green, a lot of campus ministries, free games to different sports, and so much more. The gym (the Leach) is also free to students and has everything one could want in a gym. The library is also great (Strozier) but can be crowded often, especially when it's close to finals. There are also free concerts and other events that frequently occur.

Parking: Given the amount of students enrolled at FSU and the numkber of parking spaces the ability to find an open parking space requires the stalking of people leaving class to find one.

Party Scene: One of the Best – You can find parties any day of the week, and the bars and clubs are affordable and open 7 days a week.

Campus Housing: There are some horrible communal dorms, but the on-campus apartments are very nice.

Technology: Lack of Coverage If Damaged – Fortunately, we are provided with our own Lenovo tablet computers, so there's no complain there. However, we have to return these computers by the end of our fourth year in medical school. Another problem is that if these computers are damaged in any way, even if accidental, the school's insurance does not cover it and we are responsible for any damages.

Overall Experience: Early Clinical Experience – The medical school at FSU is probably one of the best school when it comes to providing their students with early clinical experiences. I love the fact that we start early in the summer with doctoring and we get to interact with patients and correctly learn how to perform physical examinations. I also find it amazing how well they have spread out the courses for the first year medical students by starting in the summer rather than fall making medical school less overwhelming.

Transportation: Seminole Buses Are Great – We have a star metro bus, which is public, but can take you to the school from you home in FSU. Once you are at school, you can use the school's bus transportation which is running throughout the day up until the evening. During the night, faculty and security want to make sure you are safe, so they suggest that you call and asked to be picked up at the school and dropped off at your car for safety. It is great to have this type of available transportation whenever you need it.

Parking: Parking is not so bad since FSU recently built new garages. If you live 10 minutes away I would leave 20 minutes early because it takes about 5-10 minutes to park.

4 College Junior

Academics: A Lot of Options – There are a lot of options available to the computer science major. The first being online classes versus on campus classes. Second to that is the ample opportunity for internship, work study, and research. The Computer Science Department is very helpful in ensuring that you get the most of a computer science degree, and really works with you to help you get connected to internships and other programs to start using your skills in the real world! We even have our own library :)

Health & Safety: Safe, Healthy, and Secure – The campus police at FSU aren't your traditional campus police. They are a legitimate law enforcement agency recognized by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). As such, they carry weapons, and they can arrest you. So, don't get them confused with your local mall cop. These are real law enforcement offers. There are plenty of them, and they are available and responsive to your needs. Security is great on campus. They have several stations throughout all areas of campus where you can push a button and police will be there within three minutes. So you should feel safe and secure on FSU campus. Be smart, and you shouldn't have problems. There is also Thagard Health Center, available to meet your health needs. So you have access to reliable health care.

Transportation: Here a Bus, There a Bus – Every where you look there is a bus, or a bus stop. You are not going to have any problems getting around campus. I recommend simply walking; but, if you need the bus, it is there, and it is free.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: Good Options, Busy and Repetitive – There are quit a few options on campus. It just gets repetitive after a while. In fact, I get bored with the food around here quit frequently. FSU does have meal plans, which are great for students on the run.

Weather: It rains a lot in the summer, but if you're a Florida resident this would not be something unfamiliar to you. Bring rain boots if possible. It gets cold towards the end of fall/ beginning of winter.

Health & Safety: The surrounding area of my campus seems to be unsafe; I live off campus and I've seen a lot of prostutitutes around my block in the two years I've lived there. Are campus is open to anyone, so that means anyone that is not a faculty member, works on campus, and a student is invited to come on campus. Unfortunately, I've received many emails about students getting held at gun point, being sexually assaulted, and getting robbed on campus. These all happen at night, so at times when I do have to stay on campus longer, I'm too scared so I go home ahead of time.

Campus Food: On campus foods tend to be expensive, especially the healthier options. This could be a big issue for college student because during the middle of each semester, we start running out of funds. We're then forced to find something cheap that will last longer. In this case it ends up being easy mac, cup noddles, or canned spaghetti/ravioli.

Campus Housing: More Involved Living on Campus – The worst dorms to live in are Kellum and Salley, without question. The best are Landis (Honors), Traditions (Upperclassmen), and Ragans (2nd years and up). I'm going into my third year now, and I am still choosing to live on campus. It makes it so much easier to get involved with school happenings, you don't have to worry about finding parking every day, and it makes it that much better when you can leave your room 15 minutes before class starts and still make it on time.

Majors: Major University With Many Programs – FSU is a large university serving a wide variety of students and thus has a variety of educational programs. Some are average and similar to other universities, but still available and at a cheap price. Other programs are top-ranked programs, like music, law, and nursing. Even has an engineering school.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Cheap Housing Everywhere – College town with student-minded housing everywhere. Very few students choose to live on campus after their freshman year. Most places are even near university transportation.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: The area around campus isn't the best especially directly north and south of campus. East is downtown, which is nice and west is mostly the best housing. You rarely hear of major incidents on campus though and the university puts a lot of time/money into security measures as well.

Technology: Libraries and Study Rooms. A really great attribute of Florida State University is that there are multiple locations around campus that give students access to computers. We have two libraries both of which have computers available to students, and a separate tutoring location that also has computers and printers available to students. We have WiFi all around campus, so if you own your own laptop or net book you can sit outside on Landis or in any open classroom or building. If you dont own your own computer, it is not too difficult to gain access to the internet at night, late in the afternoon, or early morning. However, the exception to this is during the weeks for finals and midterms.
