Majors: I have not entered any internships, and I do not plan to enter one. I am not able to rate any Majors at FSU due to the fact that I am starting next semester.

Drug Safety: Alcohol and drug use ON campus is only visible on game days from the tailgaters, but the police checks everyone's IDs to make sure they are of age. However, OFF campus is a different story. Alcohol is at nearly every party. As for drugs, I have no idea. I do not hang out with coke heads.

Parking: They build a lot of dorms, yet don't add parking

3 College Sophomore

Administration: I have not witnessed a student being pulled over for speeding, then again there are not many roads throughout campus, but the school is strict on alcohol possesion and consumption and an absolute zero tolerance with drugs.

Party Scene: The night life is fun, there are many frat parties all the time, ESPECIALLY during football season. Game day is always crazy and a blast starting at 8AM, till the early hours of the morning. There are a bunch of bars and clubs around campus. The clubs around campus are kind of sketchy but the bars are always a blast.

Campus Housing: There is a lot of variety in the campus housing at FSU. Much of where you are placed is stringent upon what number your application is for housing. There are more suite style dorms on the newer side of campus and more community and older dorms on the other side. Some of the dorms, mostly the suite style, require you to purchase a meal plan which can be an added expense. Although the community style dorms are much older and can be a hassle, in my experience you meet and end up building relationships with those down your hall.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of options for off campus housing, especially ones that are close to campus. The only downside being the ones that are closer to campus are more expensive. The university bus system also has many routes that go right by or near many of the apartment complexes.

Academics: The Academics vary. I have some professors who are really good about teaching and testing on the material taught, whereas there are some professors that I still can't figure out where they pull their material from. And the grading is usually pretty fair except I did have a class this year where I had A's in mostly everything during the year but got a C on one of the three tests and even though I made a 100% on the final, I still got a B in the class. That just shows how important each test is!

Transportation: The bus system is very convenient going around campus and to the grocery store, but the parking for students can be quite troublesome in reference to finding a spot to park.

Campus Housing: There are alot of campus housing at Florida State University. Definately apply early for housing so you can get first dibs on where to live. Some of the housing offered are not the best and personally, I have never lived in a dorm. You can find an apartment within walking distance for the same price. Even though, it is an experience, its a personal preference and very convenient since you are already on campus. Do research beforehand on which dorms are the best and worst, dont just go by the style.

Academics: The classes at florida state are all exceptional, aside from a small amount of professors who have unintelligible accents, the staff is easily understandable and easily approachable.

Off-Campus Housing: There are many different options for off-campus housing and can accommodate a wide range of budgets and preferences.

4 College Freshman

Administration: As long as you do not do anything obviously illegal, you will not get in trouble. Law enforcement is the same as it would be in any other community.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Clubs and bars almost always offer deals for drinks and cover on the weekend. Some are walking distance around town or to the dorms on campus. If you live further you can call a cab, certain companies offer a discount if you're an FSU student.

Parking: Parking tickets are now $30 and FSU parking services are always giving out tickets for illegally parked cars, however if there were more spaces then this would not be a big problem. Most people do have cars however freshman should not really bring their cars because there is limited parking for all. The parking garages fill up very quickly so you must allow ample time to park and then get to class on time.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: Regarding the dining halls, there is never much variation to the food and I wish there was.I do get fed up with the food that is offered there on a regular basis. I enjoy Chilis and Einstein Bagels the best because they are both very accessible and are fun to be at with friends.

4 College Junior

Transportation: The buses are very useful and convenient however more buses run around one way of campus than in the opposite direction so they should make the buses run in both directions coming every 10 minutes to each stop. The buses start early in the day and end late at night which is good. The Night Nole is great late in the evenings when you want to go out or get home from a bar or something.

Majors: I'm currently apart of the Exploratory major. I have come to really enjoy this option because as a graduating senior going into college, it was really scary not knowing what I wanted to study. The thought of all the options and opportunities for majors really freaked me out. Through the excellent Exploratory program at FSU, I was able to narrow down my options and learn more about myself and who I want to be. I have also learned that I do not have to settle on one track in my life. My exploratory advisor has been extremly helpful in guiding my towards my major by showing me how to research majors and make a decision. By the end of Spring I should know what major I really want to embarq on during my time at college. Due to coming in to my freshman year of college as an Exploratory major, I have learned more about myself, and I am confident that the decision I will make for my actual major will be perfect for who I am. I encourage anyone who is unsure of what major to pick or what they want to study to become an Exploratory major. The advisors in this department are really nice and genuinely care about helping their students find the perfect major. Being an Exploratory major will not hold you back in any way because you take classes that are required while figuring out what interests you. The Exploratory major is really close nit and have programs to help their students, such as Pizza and a major where they bring in pizza and talk about how to find the major for you. Most of it is figuring out who you are as a person, what your values, interests, and goals are in life. The Exploratory advisors then help you match those with a major that fits you best. Anyone who starts off as and Exploratory student will still have the same opportunities for internships and jobs in the future as anyone else. I highly recommend being an Exploratory major if you are still undecisive as you go into college.

Parking: Parking is a hassle they need more parking by the dorms.

Party Scene: The bars and clubs are a lot of fun but sometimes it gets boring and I wish there were some better things to do.

Health & Safety: I live in Degraff and I am always scared to be walking around my dorm at night. I am always sure to walk with someone around campus at night. During the day campus is safe and beautiful but at night it can be scary and sketchy

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments can either be very close to campus or very far (5-10 minute drive). The FSU bus system does a great job at reaching almost all apartments in the area but bus rides take long and sometimes the busses fill up leaving you waiting for the next. Some complexes that have prime locations next to campus are old cheap motels that have been bought by companies and then leased to students. However, many prime locations are popping up every semester. There are also a good amount of houses, both new and old to look for near campus.

Academics: I am an Italian major at Florida State. The department is small so everyone knows everyone. You don't get generic responses to your questions but rather detailed help. Almost all of the professors in the department are very knowledgeable about the major requirements, scholarships, and study abroad opportunities. One study abroad program was actually developed by two of our program's professors.

Campus Housing: Its a must to live on campus your first year. I lived in Smith one of the oldest dorms but it was close to 4 other dorms and I met so many people.

5 College Junior

Transportation: Its very easy to get around on the buses at FSU. It is a free service.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life.
