Campus Quality: While FSU has definitely been improving and renovating many of its facades, there are still a lot of old, ugly buildings that need some repair. However, the Construction Fund and Building Plans have taken this all into account. Also, lack of parking is an issue,

Campus Quality: Florida State was my home-away-from-home. When I first walked onto the campus I felt like I belonged there. The faculty, staff, and the administrative staff are all wonderful people and very helpful. FSU has come a long way in the last decade and I think it will continue to provide an excellent education for below average costs.

Just remember to study and go to class.

Campus Quality: My schools facilities although old are extremely beautiful. So beautiful that FSU is rated the number 2 school in terms of beauty. The buildings are almost all made of red bricks and the campus its self are breathtaking. there has been many new facilities being built giving the campus a large array of the old and the new. The social scene is one of the greatest in my opinion as there are social events being held every week in place you would'nt even think of such as the library which has a nickname of "Club Stroz", because during finals when the library is filled with students every hour or so little events will be held to keep students focused and to take a short break from studying.

Off-Campus Housing: Tallahassee has more off campus housing options than one could possibly imagine. This year alone more than 10 new housing complexes went up. The price ranges are very reasonable for whatever type of price ranger you are in. Most of the apartments and off campus housing are within walking distance of FSU. No matter what type of apartment you are looking for you are sure to find what you're looking for as it took me and my roommates only one day of looking to find our 4/4.

Parking: Parking is terrible, especially during prime hours. The parking office gives out many parking tickets, which cost $30, and deny most ticket appeals. I give it a D- instead of an F because there was a parking garage opened this year which seems to always have some available spaces. FSU has recently stared taking over the top floors of some of the popular parking garages and reserving them for guests, in the morning and middle of school days when students need the spots most, with no prior warning. It is frustrating because the students are paying for these spots to get to campus and get to class and FSU parking is getting in the way of that.

Campus Quality: FSU is a very old campus, so many of the classroom buildings are older. However, even the older buildings are very charming, with a common brick exterior, making the campus feel historic and homey. There are many dining halls and restaurants, a movie theatre, bowling alley, and ceramic shop on campus for entertainment. FSU has a lot of new technology and much of it available for students to check out and take home - iPads, laptops, projectors, cameras, video cameras and more. Study space is abundant at FSU with private SMART and study rooms.

Weather: Very cold winters, windless, steamy summers and rainy springs epitomize Tallahassee weather. However, stretches of bad weather don't last very long overall, so for most of the year, the weather is sunny with tolerable heat.

Scholarships: The financial aid office is good at devoting time to helping students find scholarships. However, it is difficult to find need-based scholarships at FSU. There are many grants and scholarships for students with 3.8-4.0 GPAs, but not too much in the way of an average student needing financial assistance.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: I can't speak about RAs and such as I don't live in a dorm, but other than that I know they are pretty strict, but will work with you. I have seen many underage drunk students get busted. Most of the time, the officer is more concerned with getting the student a ride home safely than getting them in trouble, and will often find a roommate and let the student off with a warning. When it is football season, however, at tail gates, cops are more strict with issuing tickets for underage drinking. There is much less tolerance for illegal drugs.

Technology: During finals week, etc, it can be difficult to find a computer to work on, but other than that there should never be a problem finding a computer. There are several computer labs and libraries all over campus. You can even go to Strozier Library or the Johnston Building to check out laptops and iPads.

Off-Campus Dining: Tallahassee (especially the area around the campus) is absolutely full of diverse and local food options.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I was surprised to find that when you simply apply to FSU that you are automatically entered into certain scholarships based off of your GPA

Parking: The availability of parking spots close to classroom buildings is ridiculous. You have to leave about an hour before class to find a spot and walk the long distance from the garage to campus.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports is exactly what FSU is about. Football and basketball are huge on campus and the students support for the Seminole's is outstanding. I have never been to any sort of sporting event at Florida State without losing my voice from cheering on our team.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Most of the professors have in class participation in order to explain material in many different ways. Also, they normally hold great office hours and spend a good amount of time in class holding review sessions

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Most of the professors I have taken have had an obvious love for the subject, making it extremely easy to grow the desire to attend class everyday.

Athletics: To say that Florida State University is extremely school spirited with their sports is an understatement. We tend to focus on Varsity Football more so than the others but it's a life changing feeling being apart of our Game Day traditions. It's almost as though time stops and the most important thing is being dressed in your garnet and gold outfits cheering on your team and chanting with your fellow students and alumni in the stands
"F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E
Florida State!
Florida State!
Florida State!
Woo!!" The whole excitement and experiences are comparable to non and I am blessed to call myself a 'Nole.'

Local Area: Everyone around seems to like FSU, unless of course you encounter a rival after a game. Also, since it is the capitol, it is not really the "college town" vibe you get during the summer. Yes, the campus is more calm, but not the town around it. The clubs are always having something going on.

5 College Sophomore

Administration: Since the fall of 2004 Florida State University has removed the possibility of receiving "grade forgiveness". This previous Grade Forgiveness Policy allowed students a second attempt in a class to replace their previous grade and not have it affect their cumulative GPA. Now, however, students are able to drop classes before the end of the 7th week (minus exclusions) and be charged out of state tuition. I believe this is a positive change because although now it could potentially hurt the student (financially more so) it forces students to constantly thrive to do their best.

Technology: Florida State University offers a few places to access computer labs. Most people tend to bring their own lab tops which helps open space for those who do not. The library also features designated "quiet areas" as well as private study rooms and "smart rooms" for optimal educational focus.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: I don't recommend getting a meal plan, unless you plan to convert it to FlexBucks. Fresh foods and Swanee are a great experience for everyone, but not something you want to have to go to all the time. I go maybe two or three times a month, because I love breakfast food and the make-your-own waffles! There is a lot of different places to eat in the union though. Poppa John's, Chili's, Subway, and quite a few others, which is where I use my FlexBucks I converted. Also, there is tons of food all around campus.

Weather: The weather in Tally is really unpredictable. In one day it can vary by 30 degrees, and I wish I was joking. ALWAYS carry an umbrella with you!! It may look like clear skies all day and you walk out of class to a downpour. It doesn't snow, but it still gets pretty cold for Florida.

3 College Junior

Administration: The campus police have always been helpful. And they don't really tend to arrest people for underage drinking, even the local police (as long as you don't have a bottle in hand). My RAs were really friendly, there if I ever had questions and always brought donuts to our hall meetings! Only thing is you need to carry your FSU card with you. You need it for turning in tests or going into the libraries, you won't be allowed in without it.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of dining options off campus. There are fast food restaurants so if you are eating on a budget or there are more upscale restaurants to choose from. The campus provides the students with a card that gives you discounts at a lot of fast food restaurants. I love it because there is a lot of variety also. If I am craving Chinese, Mexican, or Italian there are several different places to choose from.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: The University has a lot of different clubs etc. which makes it easy for you to meet friends and people that are your ethnicity or religion.

You would be hard-pressed to find a graduate of Florida State University who doesn’t have fond memories of the years they spent on campus. Current students will also agree that they are happy with their decision to attend school here. There is something for everyone, from athletics to academia, and you would have a hard time finding a more comfortable setting than Tallahassee. It has so much to offer, from exciting nightlife to beautiful weather.

Although it bears the reputation of a party school, FSU also has a growing reputation for turning out some of the best and brightest graduates in the entire nation. The school is now turning its focus on research, which should appeal to those interested in science and mathematics. But never fear, FSU also emphasizes the arts through their award-winning film and theater departments. From math and science, to the arts, FSU offers a vast array of eclectic degrees, which will be nothing but helpful later in your life.
