3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports are a big thing on campus, especially since the basketball team did so well in recent years. I think getting a football team would be a good investment because the campus is growing so much. However, with the level of sports we have right now students show great support for every single team we have. Our intramural travel sports receive a lot of recognition as well.

Athletics: The gym is always packed and the fields aren't properly maintained.

4 College Junior

Athletics: School spirit is awesome! We don't have a football team but, the rest of our athletic department is great. Our school has a group called the Dirty Birds which is basically a fan base that attend sporting events in spirited attire and its usually a huge group. The arena and baseball field where most games are held are in walking distance from the dorms.

Being that the University is small, students do not have many sports at the school. The sports that do exist have many loyal supporters, though. Students believe that there should be more notification about days and times for the events. Some students live off campus and feel like they are never informed about games. They only find out about athletic events when they come through the main entrance to FGCU and see the signs. Since the school is not large, FGCU does not have a football team. The big sports at the school are hockey and baseball.

Lack of notification about games is probably the biggest problem with athletics. The athletics department has been trying by sending out fliers with dates and times about the games, but for certain sports, there's no notification at all. If there were more notification, then there would probably be more people in the stands and more support from the student body. The school is newer, so there are still changes and adjustments that need to be made in the future.

School Spirit
Even though the University doesn't have a football team, students do have lots of school spirit. They would probably have more if the school advertised more about athletic events.
Getting Tickets
For most of the sports events, students with a student ID get in for free, which helps a lot.
