5 College Junior

Athletics: We are Dunk City! There is a lot of school pride when it comes to athletics.

5 College Senior

Athletics: Although FGCU doesn't have football, basketball definitely takes its place. The school gets packed for games, there are signs all over the beautiful campus informing students/staff/visitors when the games are, and everyone shows their spirit. Students dress in colored body suits and make signs. There is a student fan club called "The Dirty Birds" that go to all of the sports games to cheer on our Eagles. There are sometimes tents and music set up for sports games and always staff directing traffic and assisting with parking. There are also so many sports clubs and intermurals for students. Beautiful tennis courts, swimming and diving team pool, basketball arena/gym, baseball stadium, and soccer field all right next to each other near the north lake apartment living.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I don't go to any games but FGCU is known for the basketball team

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The athletics are great, wish we had more sports.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Even for a small school like FGCU, the athletics are a huge part of campus life and student involvement. We have a very active spirit club that attends nearly every sporting event and provides extreme energy. The facilities are nearly brand new, as our school is only 20 years old. Even the surrounding community comes out to our varsity sports to support the teams. Some varsity athletes are even competing to be in the 2016 Olympics.

Being that the University is small, students do not have many sports at the school. The sports that do exist have many loyal supporters, though. Students believe that there should be more notification about days and times for the events. Some students live off campus and feel like they are never informed about games. They only find out about athletic events when they come through the main entrance to FGCU and see the signs. Since the school is not large, FGCU does not have a football team. The big sports at the school are hockey and baseball.

Lack of notification about games is probably the biggest problem with athletics. The athletics department has been trying by sending out fliers with dates and times about the games, but for certain sports, there's no notification at all. If there were more notification, then there would probably be more people in the stands and more support from the student body. The school is newer, so there are still changes and adjustments that need to be made in the future.

School Spirit
Even though the University doesn't have a football team, students do have lots of school spirit. They would probably have more if the school advertised more about athletic events.
Getting Tickets
For most of the sports events, students with a student ID get in for free, which helps a lot.
