Administration: Our campus is a dry campus so any alcohol use whether underage or not is not accepted. Also, use of drugs are cause for automatic dismissal from the university.

Scholarships: It was a little bit of a hassle trying to figure out what my financial aid was going to cover, however it all ended up working out.

Greek Life: As a member in Greek life, we support other chapters as well as other clubs. We encourage each other and others to be lively and active in other clubs as well as our own. Non-Greeks either love us or hate us and claim we "buy our friends" when that is not the purpose of joining a sorority. The purpose of a sorority and fraternity is to join a group of people who share the same values and morals that you hold to yourself and to support your philanthropy.

Off-Campus Housing: Moving into my first house this coming semester, landlords are a tad difficult. They are remodeling our house so thats a benefit, this year finding houses are very hard compared to last year. Houses closest are in San Carlos but you have to find the right area because some parts are dangerous while others are nice.

Off-Campus Dining: GCTC is full of restaurants and fast food. From Chipotle to PF Changs to Starbucks to PDQ. Prices are average.

Party Scene: Thursday and Friday nights are live in GCTC. Bar Louie, and Keys Bar on Thursdays and Rusty's on Friday's. Fraternities used to throw a ton of parties but since FGCU is so strict there were probably only 3 from the fraternity that I hang out with the most.

Administration: Very strict about quite hours starting at 10pm, I had glittered a liquor bottle for decoration and got written up. Super strict with parking on campus if you are already living on campus.

College Sophomore

Scholarships: I applied for Financial Aid but was only given loans. The only financial aid I have received is through Bright Futures.

Campus Food: On campus the food options are great! But Sovi dining only has some good days. They make the food really good during orientation so that you'll buy the food plan and then once school starts it's not so great anymore. Next year they are letting you use meal swipes for Sovi at other places such as T-bell, Chic fil a, etc.

Campus Housing: In the freshman building known as Sovi, the dorms are fairly new and nicely built. I would recommend living in Sovi your first year. I am currently living in North Lake, fairly old, spacious but somewhat dirty. Parking is a pain. The waterfront is awesome, you can sail, wakeboard, tube and the pools are nice. Housing process it a bit stressful considering the school is growing but there isn't enough space.

Campus Housing: I've been in the freshman dorms for about two semesters now and the dorms are pretty nice but it can be pretty noisey. Housing RA's are either really good or really bad in my experiences with them. Housing rules are fairly strict especially when it comes to anything alcohol/party related so definitely not many parties but you have your own room and privacy isn't too much of an issue. Overall wish I would have gotten an apartment off campus... More liberties and freedoms, with no dorm checks and searches. Plus the rooms are nothing special.

Off-Campus Housing: Nothing close is in a college students budget.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: No complaints but nothing great either.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Thursdays are the biggest nights for the "club" scene. Wednesday all you can drink at Rustys raw bar and grille. and the weekends would consist of fraternity parties.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I didn't receive scholarships, but received a lot of financial aid. FGCU doesn't give many scholarships, but it is definitely one of the best for financial aid and pell grants.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Not too bad but definitely not enough variety for the abundant amount of students in this school.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Super clean school. A green school so very aware of environmental factors. Short distance to classes but still a huge beautiful university.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: live at home not too far from campus so i couldnt tell ya

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: lots of restaurants in the area

3 College Sophomore

Administration: just what you expect looking out for student safety

College Sophomore

Party Scene: i hear about parties but i heard theyre not all that

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: only thing is refunds take forever so hopefully you got a job to get your books while waiting on it

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: just a typical dorm that houses all your needs, nothing special.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are very few apartment complexes near FGCU. the closet one is coastal village apartments. The management is poor and extremely ineffective. The are not concerned about the residents because we are all college students and they have no concern for your own privacy.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Everything near campus is a chain restaurant. So the quality is great but the uniqueness is missing.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Many FGCU students like the University, for the most part. Involvement in activities is often key. Getting involved in organizations like intramural sports and attending campus events are two great ways to make friends on campus. You come to the school not knowing anyone, but it's up to you to make that change. However, one drawback that students note is that some FGCU students still act like they are in high school, having their own little groups and cliques. Either way, it's good to remember that your college experience is up to you. Other students will tell you that they couldn't imagine themselves anywhere else!

Although Florida Gulf Coast University is often considered a very small school with not much going on, many learn to love the tight-knit homeyness of it. Fort Myers may not be a vast metropolis with a lot to do, but there is still plenty to get involved with on campus; plus, Fort Myers does have a variety of places to eat at. Overall, the campus is clean, and for a young school, is growing every day. FGCU is a great school for any freshman to start at or for any transfer student to transfer to.
