Administration: The parking at FAU sucks and I don't think they're strict enough with people parking without parking passes and also allowing the people with dorm parking passes park in the same places as people that commute to school but we're not allowed to park in the dorm parking spaces. It's not fair. They shouldn't be allowed to park in the commuters spots and we shouldn't park in theirs, or we should both be allowed to pRk in each others.

Scholarships: I didn't have many problems. I got a grant from the state I did not recover scholarships from the school even though I have a 3.8 GPA. I have only received what the government has provided.

Campus Food: I don't know about the dining hall but the chickfila that just opened is awesome!

Local Area: For the amount of time I stayed in Boca, I can say that the area was really nice and there was always something to do especially since the beach is right there. Shopping was always a plus because there is a huge mall 5 minutes from the campus. There is also always someone who wants to play sports or do any type of activities outside. The location is perfect for students and the locals are usually nice unless you travel further to the west side of Boca. West Boca, from experience, has a lot of older people who are very cranky.

Guys & Girls: There is always going to be those girls and guys that you will have specific problems with such as looks, how they dress, how they act, or their overall personalities. I can say that most of all the guys and girls who participate in frats and sororities are usually stuck up and will only associate with you if you are in the same group as them or similar. However, all the guys and girls who were in the same major as me were all such genuine, caring, and most outgoing group of people I have ever met. I think it really depends on who shares the same interests as you is where you are going to gain most of your friendships and possibly relationships. I even met my current boyfriend now in one of my classes and a year and half later we are still together for a lot of reasons and sharing the same interest helps. At the end of the day, if you do not have a conversation with someone then you should not judge them with how they act or look like on the outside.

Overall Experience: The reason I stuck with FAU is because I was absolutely in love with the Exercise Science program and there is not one regret I have about receiving my degree from FAU. They have such an awesome program and I have learned numerous amounts of information. The relationships I have had and still have now with the students and professors is good. The program is definitely unique and I would do it all over again if I had too.

Overall Experience: The variety of courses that are offered throughout the semester is sometimes a struggle because when you get closer to your program of study, the classes are limited. There should be more than 2 of the same courses offered for those to be able to work around their schedules because of jobs or whatever the issue may be. The quality of the classes are normal and just like any school. There are some professors especially with the science courses where you cannot understand the professor easily and its hard to communicate with them. The class sizes are normal and depending on the course will depend on the size of the course.

Overall Experience: My experience with my program were excellent because of the staff. The staff in my department/college were always there to help me or answer any questions I had to the best of their ability. There are several services on campus and these services are always announced to us via email. There are events such as career centers at the arena for those who want to fix up their resumes or simply look for jobs and networking with people. When it comes to finding internship through the campus, there is several to chose from making the process simple and sometimes competitive which is normal. The degree I will receive from FAU is highly valuable to me because I have worked my butt off to get it with the help of my professors and the staff. They made my undergrad experience well worth the hassle, at some points, and all the happy tears in the end.

Health & Safety: Whenever I am on campus I never have a sense of insecurity or worry about safety. There are always cops around you whether they are walking around campus or in their car outside of a classroom. The only problems I have ever heard about were alerts that were directly sent to my phone via text, phone call, or email. The crime associated with these were either a stolen computer, purse or other items, and there was once a stabbing close by. I would say the crime at FAU is very limited or goes unheard of because people are scared about letting it out for personal safety.

Greek Life: I am not associated with Greek life on any terms so my answer would be irrelevant.

Athletics: I am proud to say I was an FAU cheerleader for all 4 years of my undergrad and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I am happy I stuck with it. The students and faculty have amazing school spirit and were always at every sport event to support all the athletic teams. Each team, whether football or basketball, had their own ways of involvement with the school and all sport teams performed well on and off the fields. The fan support was just as good as the school spirit we had. All the friends and family who attended games made it that much more exciting. The athletic department was always looking for ways to improve the athletes performance during all seasons.

Off-Campus Housing: I do not live close to campus so my answer for this would be irrelevant.

Off-Campus Dining: I do not have much say to this because I am not always in the boca area since I live off-campus and in West Palm. The options around the campus were, however reasonable and affordable depending on where you go and there is decent variety of food.

College Senior

Party Scene: I have not lived on campus in 4 years so my answer for this would be irrelevant.

Administration: Every time I would step foot on campus, there never seemed to be any disturbances affecting mine or others academic or social lives. Based on my past experience, FAU is a very peaceful campus and environmental friendly. The strictness with FAU I think depends on the situation. Alcohol and drug use is not tolerated at FAU especially being underage. I know numerous situations where students have been caught with possession of drugs and alcohol or other sort of violating policies. The only thing that I would say FAU is a pain about is the parking. I had a really bad experience with a parking issue I had a while ago due to medical emergencies and I still had to fight the ticket for it because of a policy they had changed. Even now the parking is super strict and they always have someone out there on patrol checking car decals.

Scholarships: There is really not much to say about scholarships with FAU because I only received athletic scholarships and the financial aid process is dependent on my parents. It has been pretty reasonable amounts but any amount helps out especially when paying for additional fees like books. The only tips I can give is to go out there and get any scholarships you are eligible for. The more you apply for the better your chances are and I have learned that over the past few years. I should have taken advantage of the financial aid process but I continued with the average processes.

Campus Food: Its a college campus so what do college kids expect… The food I really cannot complaint too much about because there is variety and allows you to chose whether or not you are going to eat healthy. It was tough to have a meal plan because when it came to eating in the cafeteria all the time it did become unhealthy or I would consistently eat the same food.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is reasonable for when you are looking for that first year college experience. I only lived on campus my freshman year and it was well worth it. The dorm was perfect size for my sister and I, so it allowed us the space we needed. The overall atmosphere of the dorms was good, however I wish I was more social and attended the floor meetings every week so I could get to know the people living on my floor a little bit better. The amenities offered were decent, especially since we got free laundry the year before they stopped. Living in the dorms were convenient for when I was heading to class because all my classes were super close and I really did not mind walking. The only part I disliked is how much money they get out of you for having a "freshman" meal plan when the food wasn't all that great and it was difficult to spend money on other food when I had the cafe. And as for the housing process I was one of the few who had any problems. I had a good experience with the housing department.

Off-Campus Housing: I currently live at home with my parents for my student teaching but I had an apartment for two years. Living off campus was a great experience. I had my own freedom and could come and go as I pleased. Of course I had to fix cleaning a lot into my schedule but I liked the fact that my home was a hang out spot or a place where people felt like they could sleep if they ever got too drunk. I always opened my home and even my bed to my friends and it was a great feeling knowing that people could count on me for a place to rest their head. It was tedious coming up with rent and money for bills every month but God always made it happen. I would not have traded my experience for anything.

Off-Campus Dining: Because Boca Raton is not really a huge college town, a lot of the places are for locals and not really college students. There are still some restaurants or fast food places that are available, but living in Boca for four years you get tired of the same things especially if you're up late studying for finals or midterms sometimes you want something that is not a burger and thats hard to come across.

Party Scene: I do not really like going out anymore because I am getting older, but when I was a freshman and sophomore the party scene was great! There was always something to do and in the rare case that there was not a party, we made something happen. People at FAU are always opening up their homes for hang out sessions and for potlucks. Because our school is so small alot of people know each other so it makes it easier to make friends and finding something to do.

Administration: I believe in rules and that they are all for our better good. The campus police that were in charge on our campus were always friendly and helpful. I personally know one of the officers and he is an awesome person, so I know FAU only hires great people. The rules and regulations are cut and dry, we are allowed wine in some dorms and FAU does not tolerate drug use at all. I believe that things are better this way because young students under the pressure of school and working sometimes turn to drugs that could harm them because they are overwhelmed and they do not understand the severity of the effects. When I was living on campus I felt safe knowing that the officers were one phone call away.

Scholarships: The process for financial aid at my school was great. The people in the office were helpful and were always providing me with the answers to all of my questions. Once my financial aid was completed I never had to worry about my money being late or anything. It was always a great experience when talking to my advisers and the workers in the office.

Campus Food: The campus food was a great selection and was very diverse. The meal plans always came in handy if you wanted a dinner or a quick meal before class. The fast food selection was also great. From Wendy's to Chic Fil A everything was always fresh and always tasted great. Campus food was convenient because it fit the needs of whatever you wanted. From a healthy breakfast to a quick lunch, everything was always available when you needed it.

Campus Housing: Living on campus was a wonderful experience for me as a freshman. My Residential Advisers were always helpful and friendly when it came to me adjusting to a new life. The people in the dorms were super friendly and it was so easy to make friends. I am a senior in college and I still keep in contact with those people I met four years ago. The activities that were offered on campus were great too! I was able to get involved in a community service organization and it was always a great time when I attended on campus events.

For most students, FAU was not their first-choice school. While it is a large school, most students are commuters, and it seems as though almost anyone can be accepted. However, once students arrive on campus, they realize that there are many activities and events to get involved with and that maybe their experience will not be so bad after all.

FAU is an up-and-coming school and is growing in students and facilities every year. However, most students do not plan to attend for their entire college career. Many are just using FAU to get their feet on the ground and to get general education classes out of the way. A huge percent of the student population transfers after two years to a larger, more college-town type of school.
