Local Area: There is not much to do in the city of Fitchburg itself.

3 College Junior

Local Area: Fitchburg is a dwindling city, really more of a town now. There isn't much here except the school, nature, and mountains. There are small town eateries and chain stores within walking distance. Off campus parties are common as many of the houses around the campus are rented to students.

Fitchburg State is located in a city that is known for its not-so-friendly citizens. However, if you use your best common sense you will be fine. The neighboring streets tend to draw some negative attention because of the residents, but if you pay attention and stick to groups, you will not run into any bad situations.

Attractions and local retail vendors are spread across the city of Fitchburg, some within walking distance, some a car ride away. There are many more things to do in Leominster and Lunenburg, such as going to the movies, shopping, etc. The mall is a five-minute drive away in Leominster. The mall is a single story and has stores like Kay Jewelers, Hot Topic, Aeropostale, and Chuck E. Cheese. There is a movie theater, Entertainment Cinema, next to the mall, but Cinema World on John Fitch Highway has better discounts and prices for students on a budget. The commuter rail, MBTA, has a station at the end of North Street, and it can take you all the way into Boston, North Station/TD Garden for $7.75. The ride takes an hour and 30 minutes from Fitchburg to Boston.
