5 College Freshman

Administration: The New School has a long history of scholarly activists. I can't answer a lot of questions on campus housing security since I'm living off-campus.

5 College Junior

Administration: Great, they are easy to get in contact with

Administration: I did not live on campus, but from what I have heard they are fairly strict when it comes to dorm drug use and alcohol consumption. However, I have not heard of expulsions, just of disciplining. When it comes to visitation, I hear they are fairly lenient and it is mostly up to the students' discretion. This is just what I've heard. In terms of drug use in the courtyard however, there have been issues. For the longest time, students were allowed to smoke like chimneys, until they began to use NYC law to protect the health of people in the neighboring buildings who have complained of smoke entering the ventilation system. I am in agreement with this policy, despite being a smoker, and feel that students are irresponsible by exposing others to secondhand smoke. In addition to smoking cigarettes, students also smoke marijuana. It is no secret, but the security team has difficulty preventing them from doing so. Therefore, they are less strict about smoking in the courtyard as it has been happening since the school's inception.

Administration: Our campus is very liberal. Not very strict a all.

Administration: Drugs? Okay. Peaceful Protest? No – There was almost always people smoking pot in the courtyard and no one seemed to care. However, when students occupied the old student center in 2008-09 in protest against the University's much reviled President, campus security called on the NYPD's riot squad who proceeded to brutalize the students by pepper spraying them point blank in a tiny hallway and then beating them on the street as they tried to escape. Some of campus security was also investigated for sexually harassing students. This is what being a liberal college means in 2012
