3 College Sophomore

Administration: There have been a few protests against the school's policies and some faculty, but the college took it with ease, addressed the problem, and encouraged the students to keep standing up for themselves. The RDs and RAs are really strict with smoking in the rooms and drinking on campus. If you're caught more than twice for violations, you can be put on probation pretty easily.

4 College Junior

Administration: I think Emerson is generally pretty good with strictness. The RA's are generally very kind and understand that everyone is a college student. However, if you need something or are having an issue with a noise complaint or something, everyone is ready to help and easy to ask.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Can be too strict at times, especially about signing people in.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Administration is super lenient for the very common offenses of alcohol and weed consumption. Weed is FAR more common at Emerson and if you are caught it is far less harsh than if you are caught with alcohol. The administration is only severe and strict when it is something that is pretty justified from a college's point of view. There was a massive alcohol bust on campus that got 30+ students in trouble, but they filled an entire industrial sized trash bag with alcohol bottles so not many people were particularly shocked by the administration's reaction. If you are caught (if you're not in LB) they usually give you a warning or you are written up. DO NOT LIVE IN LB IF YOU PLAN ON HOSTING SOCIAL EVENTS. It is so easy to get caught in LB. If you want the least likely place to get caught, live in Paramount. I have only heard of one instance in which someone was caught in Paramount (but IMHO it was rightfully administered.) If you aren't an idiot you won't get caught. The moment you start to convince yourself its ok (like not spraying something to cover the smell or being louder) is when you will get caught so just make sure you have a designated friend to keep the event in control.

Administration: The strictness is never a problem and the rules that are in place are only helpful for our safety. Having friends stay over is easy, and partying really depends on the RA you have.

Emerson Police clearly aren’t state troopers. They’re visible on campus, but it’s usually the same two or three cops that you always see, and they aren’t looking to throw the book at somebody. The cops are generally around to keep the students safe from other suspicious activity that may be happen on campus. They work to protect the campus from outsiders more than from itself. As far as enjoying yourself with a six-pack or bottle of Jack Daniel’s, you should be fine—as long as you’re smart about it. You’ll get a feel for your RA and what you can and cannot get away with. As long as you use your head, which admittedly can be difficult halfway through the night, you can easily stay out of trouble. Of course, the easiest way to avoid drama with your RA or the police is to take your partying off campus.

There are a few pesky rules about food in the labs and where students are allowed to smoke, but any level-headed student can figure out why these rules are in place. Basically, if students use common sense, as well as some genuine consideration for others, they can all get along just fine. And most of the time, they do.
