Elizabeth City is a pretty small town. There are not many things that would peak the interest of many college students. Most students travel to Virginia for entertainment, such as clubs, parties, and the beach. There is the Waterfront Park in Elizabeth City that is very peaceful, a museum that holds plenty of history for those interested, and one nightclub that many students go to, as well. The city, in general, is completely accommodating to the students; there are many businesses that allow students to hold different events, and the citizens are supportive of the University. There are plenty of places students can complete community service and internships, too.
Overall, the city is probably one of the safest cities for students. Police are always on patrol making sure everything, including the campus, is safe and free from harm. Elizabeth City State University shares Elizabeth City with one other college: College of the Albemarle. Both schools have aviation programs and have collaborated in order to build an aviation parkway. Some students who want to graduate early also take a few classes from Albemarle that may not be offered when they need them at Elizabeth City State University.
