Off-Campus Housing: The prices are too high. It is better to stay on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: It is okay when you first arrive to the city. After awhile, it gets repetitive.

4 College Senior

Administration: The administration is very strict on attendance. If you are not attending classes they will send out notifications and allow you to meet with your advisor. Your advisor helps you get back on track so you do not receive an FA.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: The parties at the school are always full. The best parties are in Viking Village. They have plenty of space. People can come and have a good time.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: The people that work in financial aid are very helpful. It seems tough at times but they are always there to help.

Campus Food: The food is okay. I wish they had a variety on the menus. All we have is chicken for mainly dinner every night. If it not chicken then it is pork or something else that is not appealing. The grille is good, but it cost so much and therefore the Viking bucks go quicker. I wish they would allow us to use our meal plans in the city of Elizabeth City to some of the other places to eat.

Campus Housing: It is very good to live on campus. You are close to everyone. You are close to the other buildings, the classes, the cafe. Majority of the dorms are great. Some need to be worked on. Everyone is pretty friendly on campus. They speak when they walk by. The cost of the school is great. It is not too far from home but it is far enough.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I've lived in the same house for a few years now and it's close enough that I didn't need to move on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: It's the same as any other town with fast food places.

Administration: I think they believe that we should be old enough to know better and to be cautious and responsible for ourselves.

Party Scene: I don't go to many parties.

Campus Food: I'd rather go to a fast food place or even make my own food.

College Freshman

Campus Housing: I don't live on campus, but I have been inside all of them.

Local Area: If you don't have a car, don't come here. Most people who don't have one end up complaining about this school. When you come, be willing to explore. You're in a new area. Find the secrets of the town, it's very charming. The water is beautiful and the beach is only an hour away. If you wanna shop and see a movie, Chesapeake/Norfolk is only an hour away. It's a very big city with A LOT to do. An hour sounds far, but the when you're driving it feels very short. I enjoy going out, not a lot of people here do. I guess they're stuck thinking Elizabeth City sucks. Oh, and be ready to meet a lot of HOT military guys.

Off-Campus Dining: It's a small town and there a lot of local restaurants hiding between the fast food chains. There are even vegan places. There's an excellent coffehouse downtown that I find way better than Starbucks. It's a good place to study too. Amazing sushi place downtown and then there's McDonalds, Cookout, Sonic, DQ, and Panera.

Athletics: We have sports. Cool. Division III. The football field looks abandoned.

2 College Freshman

Majors: I remember coming here during orientation and I was asked by a staff member what my major was. I said political science and they didn't even know if the school offered it. ECSU has lost a lot of funding and has taken out some things. I'm leaving at the end of this semester to pursue my goals at my dream school.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is around. You'll see them have their cookouts and their step shows. I'm not sure how the rush process goes here. I don't know how that works. I know a lot about Greek life at other schools and how to get bids and their rush process, but not here.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I walk around alone by myself a lot and I always feel safe. Big difference about ECSU's campus and other college campuses is that you will not see the big blue emergency posts you normally see at other colleges. They don't exist here and it did make me feel uncomfortable at first and at night they could be really comforting to have.

Campus Housing: I'm not going to sit here and lie. It sucks. Everyone likes the Ville and Viking Towers, but honestly they get trashed all the time too. Wi-Fi in the dorms are terrible and it makes it frustrating to do homework online which is all the time you have assignments. University Towers is the worst. Community bathrooms suck, but then again they suck at every college. I know the suites are terrible too.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: ESCU is a super affordable school. You get what you're paying for though. I came to this school because my parents seemed worried about paying for college for me. I actually got a lot of financial aid and it;s my first year.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I'm not exactly sure what off-campus housing is like. I never looked into it and from the looks of the area there isn't a lot of apartments. There's a complex right across the school and there are some newer and nicer complexes down near the Walmart.

Overall Experience: I am distant learning and will have to drive 2 hour one way to take a 1 hour class 3 times per week. I work full time and I am unable to do this, y advisor who is also the instructor will not help me find a way to do this without coming to campus. this has been going on for several semester I have 5 classes left to graduate and this class is holding ,me up

3 College Senior

Academics: it is great, some issues with classes and teachers

For many aviation majors, Elizabeth City State University is the only choice in North Carolina. But whether you are into air travel or not, you will meet some lifelong friends at the University and people who will become like family to you. As students progress toward graduation, more and more opportunities come their way. The career services department always makes sure students are aware of different opportunities. Summer internships are perfect opportunities to network and meet new people who might be good resources to you after you graduate.

Many opportunities come about because of the amazing faculty and staff at ECSU. The one problem is that because the University is growing, it hasn't been able to staff as many professors to meet the growing demand for classes. Because of this, not all core classes are available throughout the year.
