Transportation: we have a bike share program - everything is in walking distance. You can also check out a car if you need something in the area. Eckerd provides weekly vans to local things like the farmers market and walmart. You don't need your own car, but many bring them.

Drug Safety: Drugs are available. The most easily available is marijuana. The school has systems set in place to discourage and punish the use and distribution of drugs, but it is easy to see how many of your peers enjoy the use of drugs. Once in a while we have ambulances come for students - mostly for alcohol consumption though. It's really bad on big party nights like kappa karnival.

Weather: Sunshine every day. It doesn't get any better than that.

Scholarships: The financial aid office does their best to get you the most money possible and are very friendly in the process.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: There are two cafeterias and one pub. They all operate at different times. Just late night food isn't too accessible so everyone has some food stashed away in their dorm.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: It's pretty good just finding scholarships is the hard part about going to Eckerd.

4 College Junior

Academics: The workload is difficult but my major (Marine Science) is the most popular major there and there are a lot of connections available for this major after graduation.

Academics: As a Marine Science major the workload is rough but there are many resources to take advantage of. The professors always have office hours to help out students if needed and there are peer tutors as well that have become very helpful.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: The immediate area surrounding the school is a little sketchy, so never walk around alone at night. But Eckerd is really close to the beach and downtown so there are lots of off campus activities.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The faculty throughout Eckerd are very helpful with whatever you need. They want to see you succeed. Most people here are either business majors or marine science majors.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: There are lots of amazing parties but every once and a while there are a couple weekends were the parties turn out to be duds. Plus the first friday of every month the main street in downtown is blocked off for people to walk around and hit some bars. There is usually live music too.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The food at the main caf is usually not so great. They make the same stuff and it gets pretty boring. Tritons Pub is pretty good. Mostly greasy stuff though they do make wraps as well. The CEC is really good but it is at the front of the campus in Sigma area far-ish away. Off campus has more options but it will add up if you only eat off campus.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I am not sure if there is much off-campus housing at the Tampa campus. It is a very busy street so it might be somewhat expensive.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: There are a few vending machines inside the building. There is also a small kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee machine for students to use. There are places to eat around the campus and a mall 5 minutes away.

4 College Junior

Local Area: Eckerd College main campus is off the beach. Beautiful sites everywhere and anywhere around this campus. The Tampa PEL location is very busy. There are plenty of places to eat and a couple of malls near by. The Tampa campus is very friendly and private. The staff is very helpful and always available. The environment is very comfortable.

4 College Junior

Parking: There is a good amount of parking and everything is pretty close on this relatively small campus. You will hear complaints from students about their "far" walks from cars to class or dorms, but inreality it would be much worse at a large campus. There needs to be more parking built in order for school growth

2 College Junior

Scholarships: There is not a great financial aid system at Eckerd, unless there is a great effort made to get real help. They do tend to give out scholarships, but they are not enough for the cost of schooling.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: Eckerd has a very open campus for students. There is a gym outdoor basketball courts and a turf field, a pool, beach area, numerous outdoor grills and fire pits. The campus is full of Florida flora and fauna. There is a TON of green space. Shoes are not necessary while on campus, in fact most students don't wear them to classes. There are parties weekly and many student clubs and engagements readily accessible to attendees. It's a great little Eckerd bubble.

3 College Junior

Technology: There are several labs that are available for student use, however; these may be locked after class hours and the computers available in the library can be hard to come by during finals week. The allotment given for printing is adequate and internet is available almost everywhere on campus, but it is drastically slower in some areas. Bringing your own computer is the best bet, but a personal printer is not necessary unless you plan to print lots of color images.

4 College Junior

Majors: Maybe the only thing Eckerd takes seriously is the academics. The professors care and are knowledgable.

Off-Campus Dining: The food around St. Pete is fine. There's a fair amount of fast food by Eckerd.

1 College Junior

Campus Food: Eckerd dining is subpar at best. There aren't many options, and the only options all suck.

1 College Junior

Diversity: Diversity? What's that? Someone once asked me where the diversity was and I told them, it's all on the sports teams.

2 College Junior

Athletics: Eckerd sports just barely pass as sports. I can describe the scene in one word: pathetic.

4 College Junior

Academics: Courses are very challenging but their are a lot of resources if you have problems.

You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here
You WANT to Study Here You WANT to Study Here The Eckerd College library is a small two-story library with a very modern and efficient draw. This is a spot where you'll often run into 60 percent of the people you know on campus. It's a popular place to study, chat, meet with groups, and relax (some even nap here.) There's plenty of places to study, including a screened-in patio, comfy armchairs, and various study rooms to vie for.

Eckerd is a really unique school with hundreds of quirky and charming dimensions, but it’s not for everyone. For some, the school is too small, offers limited major options, and has a somewhat repetitive social scene that can make Eckerd fell less like paradise and more like a very, very small tide pool. But for those who continue on at the College for all four years, there are some great memories to be had and life-long connections with both peers and professors to be made. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change Lives,” Eckerd is a school with a lot of potential, opportunities, and amazing experiences, but it is up to you to get involved and craft your own experience for the next four years of your lives.

However, there’s no arguing that the faculty is amazing, the level of interaction is great, and the location is paradise. Eckerd is one of those schools where the world is at your fingertips—students can do everything from participate in a spring break service project overseas to work at the waterfront. There are countless varied activities to help students get involved in all aspects of campus life from academics to international aid or club sports, and there is a slew of support from peers, professors, and alumni to help make your dreams into a reality. Plus, all of this in a setting where the sun sets over your backyard and a walk along the water brings just one more dolphin sighting! For most, it’s hard to believe Eckerd is a college and not just perpetual summer.
