Greek Life

3 College Senior

Greek Life: The truly "Greek" frat/sororities can be really rude about letting people in or letting the participate in their activities. They also do not like to include non-Greek fraternities and sororities, such as service sororities, in their activities.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: I'm not a Greek person but I know it has a presence here on campus. You can apply to many different chapters and there are dorms dedicated to greek.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I chose not to rush because I did not have any existing relations with the sororities. They are not easily approached by non-Greek girls unless you are friends with individuals.

College Freshman

Greek Life: I am not Greek, but for the most part, Greeks don't treat non-Greeks like crap.

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: There are two Greek Housings, one for the boys and one for the girls. The Greeks do a lot for the community and they are very nice and welcoming. Being a Greek is a good thing but you don't have to be one. The Greeks treat everyone nice whether your one of them or not.

Greek life at EKU is very active. During any given week, you can see at least one or two Greek organizations at Powell Corner sponsoring an activity or fundraiser. They host different events on campus and have their own activities as well. These include Greek Week, Greek Sing, Step-Dancing, philanthropic events, etc. Members of a Greek organization can live in the Greek towers,—Todd Hall for men and Dupree Hall for women. These are two tall buildings in the center of campus, just steps from Powell Cafeteria, Student Services Building, Alumni Coliseum, and Weaver Gym.

While a lot of students support Greek life, the majority of students view them as snobby and cliquey. It is relatively easy to join a Greek organization on campus, and there are a wide variety of chapters to choose from. However, students agree that you are not treated any differently if you decide that Greek life is not for you.

Did You Know?
Eastern caught a lot of flack about initiation rituals for some of its fraternities several years ago. Since then, the University has come down on acts of hazing, and the process is a lot more civil now. However, during initiation week you can still witness new recruits doing humiliating things around campus.
