3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I do not know much about Greek life but I see fraternities and sororities on campus year round fundraising for local organizations. There are 2 buildings for sororities and fraternities on campus.

Greek Life: I honestly have not joined a sorority. I've only been to the school for one semester and took my other classes at a community college. I really do not believe I would have time for the events that sororities have to keep up with. Nursing school is very stressful and I have to use my time wisely!

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Students in Greek life never treat non-Greeks differently, but I think they hold themselves to a higher standard (at least in appearance) than they hold non-Greeks.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: There are a lot of different sororities and fraternities on campus, including African-American Greek life.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I am not personally in a sorority because I can not afford it, but I think it is a good way to make friends and get involved on campus. No one really makes a big deal of it.

Greek life at EKU is very active. During any given week, you can see at least one or two Greek organizations at Powell Corner sponsoring an activity or fundraiser. They host different events on campus and have their own activities as well. These include Greek Week, Greek Sing, Step-Dancing, philanthropic events, etc. Members of a Greek organization can live in the Greek towers,—Todd Hall for men and Dupree Hall for women. These are two tall buildings in the center of campus, just steps from Powell Cafeteria, Student Services Building, Alumni Coliseum, and Weaver Gym.

While a lot of students support Greek life, the majority of students view them as snobby and cliquey. It is relatively easy to join a Greek organization on campus, and there are a wide variety of chapters to choose from. However, students agree that you are not treated any differently if you decide that Greek life is not for you.

Did You Know?
Eastern caught a lot of flack about initiation rituals for some of its fraternities several years ago. Since then, the University has come down on acts of hazing, and the process is a lot more civil now. However, during initiation week you can still witness new recruits doing humiliating things around campus.
