4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I myself feel quite safe on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It's on campus housing. I'd recommend Ford or McKinney, but good luck getting in there. (semi-private bathrooms and climate control during the summer)

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Being that I am an athletic training student I am a little biased towards our athletics program. I "bleed blue" through and through. Our athletes are respectful and down to earth, and Eastern makes a point to try and recruit local talents as often as possible.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I came to Eastern out on a limb. I hadn't done any research on the school. I applied, got accepted, and received some automatic academic scholarships which really got my attention. I didn't apply to any other school, I just settled for Eastern. My first time seeing campus was after a 4 1/2 hour drive from Missouri to Charleston (in-state tuition for bordering states) and it was love at first sight. There was just this relaxed and home-like feel to the university.

My experience so far, as I am going into my sophomore year, has been better than I could have asked for. The professors really seem to care and take time to get to know you and push you to be the best you can be.

Health & Safety: Campus and the town is safe in general.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: The process is fair, no hoops to jump through.

2 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: Unless you stay in Stevenson, Douglas, or Lincoln the dorm rooms are small. Between classes and dining halls everything is relatively close.

4 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: The Greek life breeds a feeling of family.

3 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: EIU is in a small school conference, the OVC.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: It's a small school, with a small town. Gets boring easy.

2 College Junior

Campus Housing: Pretty outdated and not the cleanest space to live in

5 College Junior

Greek Life: I loved being in a sorority at EIU, I wouldn't of liked this school without it

3 College Junior

Athletics: Athletics here have had cuts due to the lack of budget

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: It was an okay school. I transferred after one semester. I loved all of my friends, and the professors were nice. However, you can go to a much nicer school for the same price. The campus is run down and the dorms and food suck

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: not involved in drug use

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love the overall learning environment and how everyone is so friendly to talk to. Professors go out of their way to help you and make sure you're getting the best education possible. The same goes for the students, they are very helpful. My school is unique by not only the students that attend there but by what the school and staff make out of every activity, club, sport, and school. What I mean by that is whatever activitiy, club, etc that they do they make sure they go all out to make the students experience the best it can get so they can learn, have fun, and develop into a young adult. I would love to attend this school again to just overall be in a happy environment again. Staff and students make the best out of everything, which makes it enjoyable to come to school everyday. On top of that the learning experience was excellent, I feel more than prepared for college.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on Taylor South 4th floor, there was no elevator. I had to carry all of the items i bought for move in day up the stairs and the same items I bought and more down the stairs. It was tiring going up and down stairs everyday. The rooms were small, and our side of the hall was not as clean as Taylor North. Everyone would meet up in Taylor hall and hang out, talk and what not. We had our own dining hall which was good when you didn't want to walk. I also did not like the fact we could not really have freedom.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Our Greek fraternities and sororities were separated. Not many people of color would be apart of the "Caucasian" fraternities and sororities. I would say, out of the Caucasian fraternities and sororities, I have only seen one African American on one Caucasian fraternities and there would be zero Caucasians on African Americans fraternities and sororities. Out of the many Caucasian fraternities and sororities and the 6 African American fraternities and sororities, they made it easy to talk to them and participate. Students enjoyed being around the Greek life. They had houses for Greeks to live in and or they could have their on apartment.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Male sports were huge on my campus, the basketball games would be packed, football games were also packed. All male sports had a huge turnout and major student participation. Women's sports I cannot say the same for. Less than maybe half the students who would see males play would come see females play. It was a decent turnout, but not as many would show. When our teams would lose, we still would support and come out to games. The rec, made it so everyone could workout, they also had classes, like cycling, zumba, basketball, and etc.

Overall Experience: The school was okay. When I first arrived to the school, moved in, and began going to classes, I had made up in my mind that I did not like the school. It was hard to keep up with my 6 classes, and find help in the subjects. Once my foundations teacher noticed I was not doing so hot in my classes, she called me to her office and we talked. She told me to begin to writing down the assignments and due dates, so I will not forget. I am glad that meeting did not happen to late, because my grades began to flourish and my GPA grew. My experience at the school was a good one, I enjoyed myself while there, it was fun and it also had it boring times. But would I go back to the school yes, at the moment I cannot because of financial hardships.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: My professors really care about my development, not just as a student, but as a person. I spent time texting my anatomy instructor, discussing not just the course but possible research opportunities as well. My English professor from my freshmen year attends the same church as me, and always comes by and says hi after the service. My teachers love to keep me up to date, and I am sure that I will still have the community they provide well after I am done and graduated.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: There are a lot of opportunities for employment at EIU, but if you do not take advantage of the application window it is very hard to find a job. When it comes to finding jobs and internships, my professors have not been very helpful in finding medical experience that I can participate in, making it very hard to enhance my resume for a graduate program.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Eastern is a very well lit environment with plenty of security. There are security poles around the campus in case you ever feel in danger, and officers who are always wondering around interacting with the community and keeping an eye on things. All doors are locked to resident halls at a reasonable time, and residents are required to escort guests and have keys to access their own floors.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I'm heading into my senior year, and I have been a Resident Assistant for one year, and lived on campus for every year so far, including my next year. Campus living is great. By living in housing, I met my best friends within the first twenty-four hours of moving in, and continue to get close with people as I continued my campus housing experience. I recommend that everyone live on campus for a few years, as it provides an opportunity to build a community that no one will regret.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: As someone who is Greek, seeing how Greek life functions in the everyday life of the average college age student is interesting. At EIU, I actually believe the social scene involved with Greek Life hurts students instead of helping them, as there is no punishment for not meeting the standards expected of the fraternity or sorority.
